Review of Voice From the Ashes by Cindy Davis
With Mt. Saint Helens as a perfect backdrop, Cindy Davis has created a perfectly baffling mystery. In a small town populated with a slew of possible suspects, we see red herrings everywhere through Police Chief Ian Merryweather's "new eyes." While the volcano puffs out threats to the natural world, a murderer secretly delivers threatening notes and then acts on them. Mrs. Davis pulls no punches as she brackets her novel with two gruesome deaths. But it isn't all grim. There is a touching love story running parallel to the main plot.

If you like a good mystery you'll like Voices from the Ashes. This one happens to take place during the eruption of Mount St. Helens and the evacuation of the neighbouring small town full of tourists. Ian Merryweather has to deal with the vicious murder of his best friend, Police Chief Baker. In this community where everyone knows everyone finding the killer has a greater sting because he realizes someone he knows is the killer. Davis has strung together a host of interesting characters, intricate plot and incredible tension. It is well worth your reading time.

A Guy's Intuition,
This review is from: Voice from the Ashes (Paperback)
While the plot turns and twists lead to false trails, the patient and thoughtful police chief Ian Merryweather trusts his intuition. Three dimensional characters and good dialogue bring us to the eruption of Mt. St. Helen's, a chilling aftermath, and resolution for the chief. What's not to like?
