A woman called Lesley Cameron has left everything she owns to a complete stranger, the psychiatrist Dr Fidelis Berlin - but why? And what did Ms Cameron have to do with Murdo, now a high court judge, who is the son of Fidelis's oldest friend and mentor? Investigating the mysterious legacy, Fidelis finds herself questioning not only Lesley's life and violent death, but also her own emotions as she slowly comes to terms with illness and mortality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, beautifully read., January 26, 2011
I really can't fault this lovely book. Jessica Mann at her best. It is wonderfully suspenseful and keeps you guessing right to the very end. The lead character is Fidelis Berlin who has appeared briefly in another of Ms Mann's novels "Under a Dark Sun". Penelope Freeman's voice is a perfect match to the book, with great characterisations and in particular, the gentle Welsh lilt of Fidelis herself captured perfectly. A five star book, beautifully read.
