I know what you're thinking, and you're absolutely correct! How could I Know That Voice possibly be anything but good with all that talent packed into one film? Well it is not just good, it's educational and highly entertaining. Normally one would have to scour Youtube videos for countless hours watching Comic Con panels and interviews to get what this documentary throws at you in an hour and 36 minutes. This documentary is filled with facts, stories, tidbits, and basically everything else you could possibly want from a feature film about voice acting and all in one place. You want Mel Blanc and June Foray? You got it! You want Tom Kenny and Tara Strong? Done! You get a little taste of the past, present and even what some of the future up-and-coming talents in the industry bring to the table and just what it really means to "Get paid to do what got me in trouble in the 7th grade."

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I could have imagined. January 27, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I've been waiting for this for awhile and I can say I was definitely not disappointed. After hearing John DiMaggio talk about this through various podcasts and things, I couldn't wait to see it. Now that its finally out I couldn't be happier. I almost never pay for movies and things, but this is something that I was so excited to see that I just had to. John made this film out of his own pocket and I am thrilled to be able to support him by buying it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The most famous people you'll never recognize April 14, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I know that voice is a well done documentary about the voice over business and where it got it's start.
But I have two criticisms with this film. #1. While Mel Blanc and June Foray are definitely worth remembering, there were other popular voices in that era, like Robert C. Bruce or Paul Frees just to name a few. Now, they could have overlooked them for time concerns, but still. #2. When Richard Horvitz talks about how in every documentary, they never go into how the people in the documentaries got famous, just a jump cut and they were famous. Ironically, this film does the exact same thing. They never really go into how these actors got their breaks, with maybe two exceptions. They never got into what they went through, good and bad, that got them to where they are now, again with two exceptions. Those parts may have been cut for time concerns, but... man, the irony. Beyond that, I have no problems, it's an entertaining and informative film with all of my favorites in the mix. What more can you ask for?... Except those 2 things I mentioned, but that's just me. If you love cartoons and/or behind the scenes stuff, this is definitely worth a watch. It's not voice acting 101, but hey, I'll take it. By the way, stick around for the credits, you're in for a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was amazing! April 12, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I am a huge fan of voice actors! They are the people that bring the characters to life! On this movie which I have been wanting to see for forever, are so many of my favorites. I'd have to say that Steve Blum, Jim Cummings, Billy West, John Dimaggio, Tara Strong and Bill Farmer are some of the top favs. I have got to meet Steve Blum twice and he is just amazing and adorable in person as he is in the shows he portrays. Been following his career for over 13 years now. I have always loved voices, but listening to Steve doing Spike Spiegel just blew my mind and made my heart melt. I would be putty in his hands. I even have tattoos of anime characters such as Spike, Ed and Al from Fullmetal Alchemist, and Miroku from Inuyasha. It is because the voice actors are so absolutely awesome and talented that I have those. I love that the voice actors come to the anime conventions. This way I am able to meet the people that touch my heart so. Loved this movie! If you are an animated fan of any age, you have got to check this movie out. It is awesome!! :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply delightful July 1, 2014
By Scott
Format:Amazon Instant Video
My wife and I are currently leading an amateur game development project with a couple dozen voice actors, and we watched this together (on-demand TV, not from Amazon) just to see how the professionals do it. As we expected, the documentary was full of useful tips and fun backstage trivia. What we didn't expect (at least not so much) was how much fun it was to watch and listen to the actors and directors introducing their craft. It was a wonderful and fascinating look backstage.

The beginnings, the process, the talent, and everything else is all explained by the familiar voices often unrecognized on television. Enjoy.

If you've ever had the slightest interest in what goes into voice acting behind animation, this is the perfect documentary, featuring many of the A-list performers from both past and current animation productions together with voice directors and other behind-the-scenes personnel. Both funny and inspiring at the same time, it showcases the true talent needed to be a successful voice actor - far more than simply providing impersonations, the show illustrates the creation of a character and the ability to read anything in any style in a given voice.

It's hilarious watching Shakespeare performed by classic Warner Brothers cartoon characters as a performance, and also seeing how they merge multiple voices to create new characters. The actors truly become characters vocally in the way an on-stage actor uses expression and body language to achieve the same effect. Many of the interviewees can shift between dozens of different voices to bring the animations to life.

The documentary also explores some of the process involved in taking a script, breathing life into the dialog and then moving on to the animation stage, as well as the refinements after the production to allow for errors in lip-syncing and other pick-ups needed. If you're a movie fan and have an interest in the production side, this is a must-see - and even if you're not, it's also very funny to watch.

No Blu-Ray?
Yeah I agree. I'm fed up with companies not bothering. But frankly I stopped caring. I waited 7 years for the first two Futurama movies to be put on BD. Now I don't give a **** if they bother. Bought the DVD's and made my own BD from HD broadcasts from TV.
