About the Author

Born in 1921 in Pretare, Italy, Caponi immigrated to the U.S. in 1936 where he went on to study at Cleveland School of Art and receive his B.S. and M.Ed from the U. of Minnesota. Caponi became a professor at Macalester College in 1949, and was the art dept. head from 1954 to 1991. He is currently the artistic director at the Caponi Art Park and Learning Center, which features 63 acres of sculptures.

Voice From The Mountains by sculptor and educator Anthony Caponi is a personal memoir of a remote village in the Apennines Mountains of central Italy, where Caponi spent his boyhood in the 1920s. Traditions handed down through the centuries and pride in the heart of day-to-day living mark the reflections and remembrances. Black-and-white photographs add an extra touch to this powerful account, which is written largely in an unusual style that strongly resembles free-verse poetry.
