Owens is one of the top-rated radio personalities in the country because he offers moderation, rather than indignation. Always open-minded and never dull, Owens is controversial precisely because his is a rare political voicea voice from the center. He has no hidden agenda. He spouts no facile moral platitudes. He understands that morality and politics arent black and white, and that anyone who says otherwise is probably naive. He doesnt pander to audiences or call those who disagree with him traitors. He avoids ideology and opts for good, old-fashioned American common sense. Eschewing both the bogus moral outrage of the Right and the starry-eyed idealism of the Left, Owens simply tells it like it is.
Generally liberal on social issues and conservative on fiscal matters, Owens is more popular than ever because he offers people the kind of honest take on politics they cant get anywhere else. He pulls no punches and holds both the Left and the Right accountable for Americas many problems. Preoccupied with hating each other, liberals and conservatives are polarized by issues, suspicious of each other, and inflexible in their attitudes. And as long as the political discussion in America remains mired in ideological trench warfare, we cant come together to solve our problems.
Voice of Reason is a breath of fresh air in todays toxic political climate, offering a positive message in dark times: that with reason, common sense, and pragmatism, we can find common ground between all Americansleft, right, and center. If youre sick of the hyperactive bleating of the Ann Coulters and Michael Moores, and youre ready for a straightforward and fair discussion of todays biggest issues, theres only one Voice of Reason out there.
"Throughout the many years Ive known Ronn Owens, Ive developed a deep respect for his knowledge of issues and for his uncommon common touch. There are many great things I can say about Ronn, but the thing I admire most about him is his fairness. And our public discourse is the better for it."
U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT)
"Whether you find yourself agreeing with him much of the time or not, Ronn Owens is never dull or given to predictable knee-jerk opinions. On the contrary, you can always rely on him to be interesting and fair, and to challenge stereotypes on the right and left in pursuit of answers to problems that many others exploit to deepen the divisions in the country."
U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ)
"I have known Ronn Owens for over 20 years, and I have the utmost respect for him. Many radio talk show hosts today come from the far right or the far left. Ronn Owens does not. He bases his decisions on reason and common sense."
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)
"Ronn Owens is a corner store for common sense. Hes got the smart good part of liberalism and the smart tough part of conservatism. Hes street smart, well-read, and gives a damn."
Chris Matthews, host of Hardball on MSNBC and The Chris Matthews Show on CNBC
"Ronn Owens is not left or right and surely is not always wrong! But he sure does make you think."
Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press
"People want to order a la carte. They dont want the dinner either party offers. An appetizer of pro-choice shouldnt mean a second course of high taxes. You shouldnt have to swallow the NRAs baloney to bring your taxes down. This is what Ronn Owens is all aboutneither party, neither ideology, just common sense and political independence."
Dick Morris, FOX News Channel Political Analyst

What's finally right with left and right,
By Kathleen Dunn (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Voice of Reason: Why the Left and Right Are Wrong (Hardcover)
It was so refreshing to read a book that did not try to convince me that only the left or only the right is correct. It is possible to take a little from both worlds and have a doctrine that is not only acceptable, but realistic. Thank you, Ronn, for presenting a little of both and letting us, as thinking adults, make our own decision. I admire a person that is not afraid to speak out for what they believe -- and that is what Ronn Owen is all about! I will be sharing this book (and what great gifts!!!) with my friends and co-workers who seem to be hesitant to realize that both sides have something to offer. Thank you for taking the time and having the courage to speak out for what you believe.

Worth the money...,

This review is from: Voice of Reason: Why the Left and Right Are Wrong (Hardcover)
This is a good book and worth every penny. It is quite rare in today's polarized politics that you can find a book by an independent thinker--quite a breath of fresh air. The book has a diary feel to it, though Owens does tend to ramble at times and jump around. Do not pay attention to the reviews that give it one star--they are idealogues who didn't even read the book--note their ad hominem attacks and they don't even discuss, rather give one sentance fragments from radio shows. I take off one star because of how much Owens concentrates on California politics. However, if you followed the recall, you probably won't have a problem reading the book. In summary, if you want to think critically and rationally about politics this is the book for you. If you are an idealogue who is not open to other points of view STAY AWAY--this book is not for you, stick with your Coulter/Franken/Moore etc.

Can't seem to find the voice of reason,
By Da2 (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Voice of Reason: Why the Left and Right Are Wrong (Hardcover)
I can't really add too much to some of the criticism here, but I can throw in an anecdote that will perhaps illustrate the hypocrisy that is Ronn Owens. This book purports to be the voice of the center, but that self-styled description comes from a man who plainly states that he can't support Wesley Clark as a democratic presidential candidate simply because he is endorsed by Michael Moore. Where is the reason in that? Ronn isn't interested in what Clark actually stands for or what's on his platform. Blind hatred of the far left Moore removes his ability to reason, which is the supposed cornerstone of this book. Ronn has supportive blurbs on the back of his book (and the foreward) written by some heavy hitters in politics - some of whom I dislike intensely. But I wouldn't judge Ronn based on their endorsement of his book. That's what reason's all about.I think you'll find deep consideration of issues gives way to superficiality and clouded judgement in this book. There is a certain amount of entertaiment value, but don't expect the level of discourse that you might find in more serious political writing.
