The simplest theory is usually the correct theory,

I first started studying voice when I was 8 years old and worked very hard in choir and competitions, always trying to become a soloist. I never reached that goal and I finally gave up about 5 years later. I was completely convinced that I had no voice and no talent.Almost 20 years later I finally began singing again, hoping against hope I would find a teacher who would be able to communicate how to place the voice. I have found that teacher with Miriam Arman's book. Her writing is easy and enjoyable, making the voice not only technically correct but fun to learn. I now also firmly believe that I do have a voice and that it's strong and pure enough for all the classics that I love. Many of my friends know that I sing and lately have been asking me why my voice has changed so much in such a short time. I owe it to Ms. Arman's amazingly simple, vivid techniques. Thank you, Ms. Arman, for writing a book that even a tender beginner can understand. And thank you for teaching in such a way as to preserve, not damage, the voice. I've never sounded better.

FINALLY!!!! a book that reveals the real secret of singing,

This review is from: The Voice: A Spiritual Approach to Singing, Speaking & Communicating (Paperback)
I have been singing since I can remember. I never took classes as a kid, cause I thought back then that I didn't need them, and it was true back then...I didn't think of what I was doing, I just did it and my voice was at my command at all times, no matter which note I had to sing, or how loud I had to be...Sadly, as we mature and become more aware of ourselves and our surroundings, we start to forget what we used to know innately...I came to a stage in my life ( when my voice changed) when I couldn't rely on my instrument anymore, it seemed to have taken control over me instead!!!I then decided I should take voice lessons in order to regain control of my instrument...I thought that singing teachers were supposed to help you remind yourself what you knew and could do as a child. So I started taking lessons, I learned all there is to know about vocal apparatus, vocal production, vocal health, but it still wasn't enough, my voice had grown unruly, I had two separate registers, with a big crack in the middle, I was told that I should learn to belt, but something inside told me that belting wasn't right ( with all due respect to belters) that there had to be another way, that I could use my upper range, that it had potential. And my memories as a child were of singing freely and effortlesly, staying in one place at all times...singing was about freedom back then, and it was starting to turn into something that kept me captive and stressed...so I turned myself to books because something inside me told me that there had to be a way of singing like I did as a child...and after a lot of reading and researching I have to say that Ms. Arman's book was exactly what I needed all of my life. I haven't even finished it, I'm still begining to read it, and only four chapters of it have given me more than years of lessons at the piano. She is able to deliver her concepts in such a precise way that you feel like she's right there beside you as you read the book. And she basically uses the technique that was used by the most important and beautiful voices in history, a knowledge that is so simple and easy no wonder we've forgotten it...

This book is a revolutionary ground breaking work for the singing art form. Ms. Arman teaches the reader how the voice is produced the way the Great Maestri taught the voices of the Golden Age. She understands, explains clearly, and shares her knowledge in an intimate and gracious way with the reader. After studying classical voice at a famous conservatory and with famous teachers, I still was not able to produce effortless, beautiful sound. After reading her book, most serious students can't help but get on a plane and go meet her which is what I did. In one lesson, 13 years after serious vocal studying in 3 major US cities, I found my voice. My experience is a testament to the truth and integrity of the technique outlined in this book. Because of the existence of the information in this book, a whole generation of new singers has the opportunity to bring back the great age of singing. I am absolutely positive that Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman will go down in history as a legend. The work of her students who use the wisdom of this material and who sing on the major stages of the world, are a testament to the fact that she is a brilliant teacher, a great mind, a remarkable woman, and an international treasure to the Art.

Does anyone realize that this is the only way to teach? The work being described in this book, is the most phenomenal thing I have come across. I had a destroyed voice, vocal cord nodules, not a doctor nor a speech pathologist had the minimal idea of what to do with me...I was scheduled for surgery...someone told me about this book and I read it and bought the Cd and there is a masterclass video as well. In a period of three months, my nodules had retracted, the doctor could not believe it, but said " whatever you are doing, continue" Well. all I did was follow what Miriam Arman had to say...I followed the excercises and my voice changed, almost immediately. I read over and over, did what each chapter said and went on to the next, chapter by chapter....it is amazing...I got in touch with her and she answered me...she helped me over the telephone....If more teachers would take on doing what she sais, the singing world would be different and if speech pathologists and doctors would really want to help they should enlist her help. I was handicapped, this book gave me my life back. Thank you

Rarely do I endorse books, but. . .

This review is from: The Voice: A Spiritual Approach to Singing, Speaking & Communicating (Paperback)
I have used a number of resources for training, development and skill enhancement throughout my career as both a professional singer and a commercial voice talent. Rarely have I found a truly profound, bottom line, clear approach to correct and flowing use of the voice, whatever the application. Several resources are available to steer a person towards correct, easy and flowing use of the voice. . . something most all of us depend upon daily, regardless of our vocation. Few find the understandable, simple articulation needed to communicate the distinctions we need to make conscious, proper use of our voices. With her new book, THE VOICE, Ms. Arman handily accomplishes this most illusive of tasks. In March of this year, after thoroughly reading THE VOICE, I traveled from the Pacific Northwest to Florida to spend time with Ms. Arman, to witness and try her methods for myself, in person. Curiously, Ms. Arman does not sing. This, I could not get over. As a singer myself, I just had to check this out. How could she train opera singers around the world and many others and never sing a note? Very simply, in less than one hour's time, my impression reinforced my experience of the book. Her methods work. My time with her was invaluable, but a repeat of the book. So, travel to Florida was a confirmation for me, but is certainly not necessary. Conclusion? Buy the book! (Book endorsements are more than rare for me.) For those of us who depend upon it for our living or as our key business tool, mastery and care of the voice is crucial. Have you ever lost your voice or gone through periods where it was a strain to use it with flow and ease? Of course you have. Everyone has, or most everyone. Ironically, it is then and especially then, that we become aware of this very unique, precious human gift -- the voice. The voice is known as "the first instrument." It is the only instrument that is a part of our human body. It is be used to make music, broadcast the news, read a children's story, land a new job, express love, ask for what we need, and the list goes on. On the most basic of levels, health and proper use of the voice is a must for anyone. There are infinite levels achievable from there, as the connection to and expression of the mind, soul and spirit. Have you ever really thought about it? We probably take for granted our ability to be expressly vocal more than any other gift, and yet its dimensions reach to the limitless. Please read and reread The Voice and take it personally. The benefits will last a lifetime. It is with wholehearted fervor that I endorse this most outstanding work of author and vocal pedagogue, Miriam J. Arman, THE VOICE. - Ms. Joey Marguerite -

"Here comes the sun" This Beatles title came to my mind, asked how I would describe this extraordinary and refreshing book, we have at hand here, comparing it to others of the genre.Finally.Mrs Arman's book is not a technical and theoretical bombardment about the subject, written for insiders or professional singers only.In the contrary. Everybody can win and profit through it and gain new insights that reflects even the spiritual. Through Mrs Arman's way of teaching univers unveals itself. In her book she shares not only the knowledge of her life experiences in voice teaching in general, yet Mrs Arman enriches the openminded reader also with some spiritual gifts and insights, to look behind the curtain, outporing some secrets that help to understand what the voice is: a mirror of our true self. This way Mrs Arman does both: She lectures and she teaches in the best sense of the word. With the most honorable intention: Not only to bring to the surface and develop the very voice of any student carefully, forming it in a natural way, but also in assisting to correct any functional disturbances of the voice, that even may result of a disbalanced soul. Corresponding to that her book implicates as well big therapeutical values, that are helpful for all those of us dealing with voice problems. The "spiritual approach" flows in here. Last but not least this book is welcomed and appreciated, as the reader can feel the passion and love why it has been written: to share with the world this unique and special gift, that life has gifted her with, to develop and treat the voice as what it is: a pure and precious sound of universe

The Truth and Power of the Voice Revealed,
By Tony Partington (tonytenor@aol.com) (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Voice: A Spiritual Approach to Singing, Speaking & Communicating (Paperback)
At long last, here is a book which professional singer and novice alike can read and understand the true power and spiritual connection of the human voice. Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman has given the musical world a priceless gift with her book THE VOICE: A SPIRITUAL APPROACH TO SINGING, SPEAKING AND COMMUNICATING. With so much emphasis these days on short cut, fast result vocal methods which push singers into professional careers and repertoires that ultimately ruin fine voices, Ms. Arman has gone back to the old school, the "Golden Age" of singing and vocal production to show that there is really no mystery surrounding proper healthy vocal production. In fact, she herself tells us that the natural knowledge of the voice is innate within all of us. We must un-learn all that the stresses of life have put upon our voices and go back to the type of natural vocal production found in newborn babies. It is a thoroughly interesting and comprehensible book and the theories put forth are indeed the road to limitless vocal achievement. In reading this gifted artist's contribution to vocal pedagogy, one must put aside the strictured thinking of today and allow themselves to be taken on a journey of sorts into the realm of visualization and the spiritual. One must let go of preconceived ideas and limits and explore areas of one's own artistry as yet untouched. I would commend this book to all singers and say to them that Miriam Arman's writing truly reaffirms the concept that music is a universal language and that within her universe, the possibilities are limitless.

Thank you Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman, for your wonderful book about singing. It has changed my life, and my voice for the better, in many ways. After three years of opera lessons,(with the bel canto method), my teacher had me working on vocal exercises, no singing, because of being in my throat. After 3 days of working with your methods, my voice sounded like hers did, when she showed me how it was done. Now songs with high notes, are a joy to sing, knowing I will sing every note well...too many good things to say, just so thankful to be able to study with your book every day. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to sing at their best. It gives a freedom and joy to the voice I've not found anywhere else.

Ever since I was a child, I have longed to sing but I was unsure how, so my voice remained unheard. I felt like it was locked inside of me. I was looking for the key when I came across Ms. Arman's amazing method in her book, The Voice. Intrigued, I wanted to HEAR her method also. So I bought the FIRST LESSON on CD. And Im so happy I did. Listening to this first lesson, it feels as if Ms. Arman is standing right beside you, guiding you. And she is.Ms. Arman patiently and expertly takes your voice, step by step, up and up, until it is floating. Imagine being able to sing effortlessly without strain for hours on end. Sound like a dream? Together, you and Ms. Arman WILL make it come true. It is exciting to hear her teach this method and exciting to learn it. And with the CD you are able to listen again and again. I cannot thank Ms. Arman enough for sharing her great knowledge of the voice. It has changed my life and I know it will do the same for you. So please give yourself this gift. Recognize this opportunity and reach for it! Find your voice and free it!

i read the book once so far. it's really good, don't get me wrong. but all the gushing reviews make it out to be *the* life-altering missing link that you've sought your whole life to instantly unlock your singing potential. i think the book sends you off in the right direction towards developing a healthy and hopefully beautiful voice. but you, unfortunately, will still have to be patient and put in some hard work. so yes, the book is great, but keep in mind that miriam is not god.
