Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The Preface to this 2011 book states, "'This is the first communique from the 99 percent. We are occupying Wall Street.' With those words, the Occupy Wall Street movement, a small group composed mostly of student activists, announced its presence to the world. Within just four weeks, the Occupy movement spread across the country and around the globe, and drastically changed the terms of political debate in the US..."

It adds, "The OWS movement has irreversibly changed the American political landscape. Although critics from both political parties labeled them as 'vague' and 'lacking a clear program,' and asked each other, somewhat baffled, 'what do the protesters want?' the goals of the movement resonated with a nation that had seen thirty years of class warfare from the rich, without any effective response from anyone in government... the underlying framework was clear. We are the 99%, they are the 1%, our interests are not the same---it's time our interests were defended." (Pg. 7)

One article notes, "The people coming to Wall Street September 17 come for a variety of reasons, but what unites them all is the opposition to the principle that has come to dominate not only our economic lives but our entire lives: profit over and above all else." (Pg. 19)

One participant noted,"And people honked approval at us. And they honked, and honked, and honked. A few people shouted as us to 'get a job!' and 'move to China!' but I could barely hear them over the honking." (Pg. 250)

This is a fascinating and insightful portrait of the Occupy movement, "as it occurs."

The book , Voices From the 99 Percent, outlines in great detail the start-up
of the Occupation Movement. I have had my copy autographed. Myself,
I am about to release 'After the Acopalypse and Occupation Event,
my pen name: Annec..., and I have moved to St. Petersburg, Florida.
