5.0 out of 5 stars Voices of Autism
If you are coping with a friend or family member who suffers from autism, or if you are interested in learning more about the disease, you need this book. It opens the door to a community of medical professionals, families and caregivers that is both touching and informative. 1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing!
I've read a lot of books about Autism and this is my least favorite. While there are some inspirational stories, majority of this book is very negative. The chapters written by parents with children on the spectrum is what I disliked most. One parent blamed their autistic child for their divorce and being alone and another looked at her child and thought to herself "my...

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing!, June 28, 2010
This review is from: Voices of Autism: The Healing Companion: Stories for Courage, Comfort and Strength (Voices Of series) (Paperback)
I've read a lot of books about Autism and this is my least favorite. While there are some inspirational stories, majority of this book is very negative. The chapters written by parents with children on the spectrum is what I disliked most. One parent blamed their autistic child for their divorce and being alone and another looked at her child and thought to herself "my life wasn't supposed to be like this." The worst part is after the section, they include what the parent is doing now and say practically nothing about the child. My brother has autism and he has done nothing but increase the quality of life for my family and me. If you want to read an uplifting book from the point of view of a parent with a child on the spectrum read, Mother Warriors by Jenny McCarthy.
