Strongly operatic but not overbearing at lower listening levels,

I find a lot of operatic Christmas music to be too strong for just background music as for me it needs to be listened to at moderate volumes. This CD, however, comes across and flows very well at lower volumes. Perhaps it is the mix or familiarity with many of the selections; I'm not sure--but regardless, this is a very nice CD.
I found that when listening to it simply for the sake of listening, there are times when the various selections seem to run together and lose their distinction. Yet if it is simply background music, which was my interest when I purchased it, then this CD excels. On the other hand, again speaking for myself, if it was is something that I wanted to devote myself to and consume myself in by becoming enraptured with the sounds and voices and so on, I think it could get on my nerves. There is a lot of wonderful Christmas music here. For the price, quality of voices, music, and so on it cannot be beat. Thus even with four stars, if you are looking for this type of selection you can't go wrong. I highly recommend it. |
