What a great book. It reminds me a bit of a modern Walden in some ways, but more down to earth (no pun intended) with a very practical, yet insightful and spiritual approach. It's like a true environmentalist and nature-lover meets natural spirituality. Inspiring, great read.

Beyond 'Sacred Land',
This review is from: Voices of the Earth: The Path of Green Spirituality (Paperback)
With 'Voices of the Earth: The Path of Green Spirituality,' Clea Danaan delves more deeply into how we can each form a true relationship with our immediate environment. Of course Danaan's environment is the natural world, but I feel the connection, the slowing down, the developing of all our senses to 'read' what's around us can be used wherever there is life (even the stone in buildings and sidewalks contains life).
I highly recommend this book not so much as a how-to book (as 'Sacred Land' was, relating to gardening, plants, and soils) but as a book that teases us out of a passive relationship with our environment, inspiring curiosity, and that shows us what we can do to follow up on that curiosity. Shamanic students will appreciate the approach Danaan has to fellow life forms (always asking permission, always having respect). |
