More than just an anthology of poetry, November 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Voices from Israel: Israeli Poets Speak to America of Life and Home, Anguish and Sorrow, Love, Joy and Hope (Paperback)
This collection brings to us more than just a gift of poetry from the land of Israel. It allows us to touch lives that we have no other conception of. In Voices, we meet people who live in fear, in awe, in tradition and history that we here in the US have almost no connection to, and we are privileged to take a glimpse into their lives and passions. This publisher had a keen and creative eye in bringing us a gift of modern history, beauty, and of course, the graces of the poetic verse that we otherwise would not have heard.

A Great Read!!!, November 2, 1998
This review is from: Voices from Israel: Israeli Poets Speak to America of Life and Home, Anguish and Sorrow, Love, Joy and Hope (Paperback)
Voices from Israel is a great read for anyone who enjoys great poetry. The thing that makes this collection interesting is that it is by Israeli authors and they write about their experiences and feelings on Israel and the Jewish experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys creative thinking and discussions about such an important topic as Israel and how the people of Israel are important to all of us.

I found VOI to be a great and inspiring collection of poems from some truly talented poets. Thankfully, the publishers decided to put this book together as it really hit home in exploring the intricacies of life. I recommend it highly.

A marvelous and multi-hued contemporary anthology, November 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Voices from Israel: Israeli Poets Speak to America of Life and Home, Anguish and Sorrow, Love, Joy and Hope (Paperback)
"Jerusalem is where you find God around every corner And History on the soles of your shoes." Melvyn Millman ³Voices from Israel² is a remarkable collection of poems. All the poets included live and work in Israel but write in English. They come from all parts of the country and from many walks of life and backgrounds. This gives the anthology a quite extraordinary variety and depth‹poems range from the reflective to the sardonic, from humor to tragedy, from the intensely personal to the generally philosophic. Although the poems were mostly chosen for their focus on the experience of living in Israel, the concrete imagery, the intellectual richness and sheer intelligence found on every page, give the book a much more general significance, andmake this New-York produced volume a must for every lover of poetry.
