Beautiful,
This review is from: Voices and Poetry of Ireland with CD: Hear the Best-Loved Irish Poems (Hardcover)
Irish voices, Irish words. Bono, Richard Harris, Gavin Friday to just start the list of voices. My favorite poet, W. B. Yeats. For a brief moment, time stood still as I listened and read. Centered me, focused me. Nothing anyone could ever say will ever deter me from giving this book to those I love, again and again. The Irish write and sing from their hearts. This book is a small reflection of that. One for yourself, one for the one you love the most.

If you ever wondered why Irish Poetry stands alone, this collection should show answer your questions..It is a collection of 41 poems read by some of Ireland's best known and loved personalities. It has always amazed me that a country, whose population today is still less than 5 million could have produced the amount of great poets, writers and music that have come out of this little island in the sea, which truly deserves the name of "The Emerald Isle".This is not a new phenomenon, but has continued for centuries.Maybe there is something in the water or maybe God decided to create something special that accounts for the reason so much has come from so few. This book is especially wonderful as it covers poetry from many times, and writers;but it also comes with a CD which has each of the poems recorded by various personalities.I have never been that great of a lover of poetry, especially where I had to simply read it.However,to just find a quiet spot, and sit and follow the printed words and listen to these great poems read with the "lilt" of these talented Irish personalities,is a whole different experience. I note that there is another book listed on Amazon by the same title, but has over 100 poems. It appears that it is a larger version ,but with over twice as many poems and presumably even more personalities doing the readings. Even if you are like me ,and have trouble appreciating poetry;give this book a try;I am sure you'll love it. |
