Editorial Reviews

From the Author

The initial idea for this recording came about when, at the behest of the U.S. Department of Defense, I was touring the country delivering speeches on behalf of Korean War veterans. The idea fell into full fruition when, along with Ed McMahon and singer Randy Travis, I was asked to narrate a piece at the MCI Center in Washington, DC.

The response was overwhelming and it took me back to earlier in the day when I had the opportunity to visit Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and spoke with some of our young servicemen and women who had been wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Purple Heart veteran, I understood what they were going through; moreover I was struck by their courage and dedication, and was reminded that, like all veterans, their only aim is to serve this country - and to serve it without reservation. When I returned home, I thought of writing and recording a tribute to all veterans. The result is VOICES: A Tribute to the American Veteran.

Voices is not designed to be an endorsement of any political party. The sole purpose of this offering is to pay tribute to those who have served and are now serving this nation. It is to honor those who have fought and died for the principles of freedom that we, as Americans, so enjoy today.

James McEachin

From the Inside Flap

It is easy for Americans to be cynical these days. We find ourselves forgetting basic truths. There is, in may of us, a desparate yearning to hear something good about the country, about ourselves. We want to feel good about being Americans, and many times we feel a sadness because we cannot find a way to express that love of country which Americans feel.

Most of us are not artists, we cannot create memorable phrases or wonderful music about America. Thankfully there is a James McEachin and a Lou Foristieri to fill that bill. They love America, and from their love of country has come one of the most moving musical monuments to her beauty and her potential. This is not justy an album of patriotic songs or speeches, but rather a musical love letter filled with compassion and strength for America and for those who defend her. While the emphasis of this album is on the American military veteran (and fortunately it includes the acclaimed recording, "Memorial Day") each of the six selections is part of the whole picture to be considered in matters of war. Lou and James, along with engineer Ritchie Raposa, have refined and honed the art of prose oratoria, which they first premiered in the award-winning CD, "Pebbles in the Roadway." James' words are evocative, timely, sincere. Lou's music is powerful and inspirational.

"VOICES" is a profoundly moving tribute; it is quintessentially American.

This review is from: Voices: A Tribute to the American Veteran (Paperback)
McEachin has outdone himself in this wonderful commemorative to the American Veteran. The writing is superb with historical reference and accuracy that eloquently tributes all members of the military in an honorable reflection. McEachin's voice is as rich as ever, the music to accompany each piece blending into a masterful narration. Voices is excellent beyond belief, a must hear for every American and especially those who've served and are serving our country in times of war.
