Book Description

March 1, 2005
The political and military struggles in Vietnam consumed the resources of both the East and the West. Once the United States committed its armed forces in 1965 to defend South Vietnam's independence, the conflict took on epic dimensions. The Vietnam War marked the largest commitment of American combat forces since World War II and became the longest war in US history. This remarkable collection of human stories from all sides of the conflict charts the war from its opening stages to the dramatic evacuation of Saigon in April 1975. Compiled from hundreds of interviews with veterans and eye-witnesses, and including rare archival photographs, it provides a unique insight into the most socially and politically divisive war of recent times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up for Voices From Vietnam, August 24, 2005

This review is from: Voices from Vietnam: Eye-witness Accounts of the War: 1954-1975 (Hardcover)
Voices From Vietnam is a book everyone should read. For those who aren't familiar with the Vietnam War or even for those who are, this book explains many angles of the war. The authors allow the men and women involved with the war, both in Southeast Asia as well as at home in the U.S., to tell the story of the war from their points of view based on their experiences instead of the typical way histories of the war have been written. The descriptions given by the participants are so incredible that it helps you picture what the war was actually like. The authors' text that surrounds the voices of the participants is very clear and can be understood by anyone, not just specialists or veterans. Anyone who wants to learn about the Vietnam War and what the U.S. went through during this time period should read this book and not leave the store without it. I can only hope the authors of this book will write other books on the war.
