This review is from: Voices & Visions: Marianne Moore [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Voices and Visions video biography of Marianne Moore is fascinating in every way. The feeling of intimacy achieved is remarkalble. This was aided immensely by the fact that Marianne Moore's apartment was moved to Philadelphia following her death and reassembled exactly as she kept it. The camera pans the objects on her desk; the animal statues, the pictures, the autographed baseball. You feel as though you are secretly searching Ms. Moore's apartment and she may walk through the door at any time. Included in this video is an interview conducted for NBC's the Today Show by Joe Garagiola. The idea that this former baseball player should interview Marianne Moore, the triple crown winner of writing, was wonderfully appropriate. In another interesting segment, Ms. Moore's ideas for naming a new car for the Ford Motor Co. are shown. This was wonderful and perhaps the most amusing part of the video. She took the assignment very seriously and came up with the most amazingly inappropriate names that one could imagine. The car was inventually named the Edsel after Henry Ford's son. Given the history of that car, perhaps they should have gone with one of Ms. Moore's names. There is also great beauty and insight in this video. The section describing her trip to Mt. Ranier was wonderful. I highly recommend this video for Moore's fans and everyone else.
