A must have,

Eon's "Spice" was my introduction to rave/techno back in 1991 shortly after moving to San Francisco. I can still remember being at a street fair on a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 91, techno DJ crankin' this one and thinking ... this is the best music I've ever heard. It still sounds new in 2003. This is old skool techno at its finest.

Started it all,
By DJAnimosity (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews

This is the album that started my decade-long fascination with techno, dance, house, trance--whatever you want to call it--music. The movie samples scattered throughout the album, especially those from the film "Dune" found on the track "Spice", add to the atmosphere of the album, creating an other-worldly feel. Even eerier is the sample used on "Basket Case", in which the exchange of "What's in the basket?" "My brother." kicks off the track. Standouts here include "A Kind of Living", "Spice", "Basket Case (White Coat Mix)", and "Fear: The Mindkiller". I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't like this album. If you're into breakbeats, techno, or dance music in general, don't be put off by the fact that this album is 10 years old. It sounds fresher than 95% of the drivel that's being released today. This album isn't the easiest to find in record stores, so I recommend ordering a copy today!

This is the beginning. Breakbeat that still sounds fresh(a decade later!), with enough musical content to keep you interested beyond the dance floor. One of my personal all-time fav's

Where Darkest Stars Dwell,
By Charles M Hurst (Carnelian Bay, CA United States) - See all my reviews

If you're considering this disc, ask yourself how you came here? With 'Basket' Eon lead the way of Flat-Note House. Now known as Dark House. While the musicians had strong roots in the development of the House sound, destructive intonations seemed irresistable to the doomed. Flat notes spun over breakneck speed sent crowds deep into the darkest corners of their consciousness. As Dune samples wheeled through danceable knowledge of pain and fear, surviving listeners raised to pillars over heaven. An ability to be was no longer sought. Calm loops in chaos kept even the innocent in the balms of evil. Skimming beneath warm clouds of a never before seen stomp, Eon introduced true madness to a scene already riddled with insanity - and challenged its ability to maintain. Stomping crashes took every spun raver into the flat ranges of desperation, and raised the power of both literary wisdom and the drive of tribal pursuit in a music that should be compared to the dark guitar work of early Sabbath. With the power of House, HERE is secret few sane hear. In 1992 I'm not sure Eon knew what they were doing, but an entire legion of House opened because of their foresite. Because of them, Nwafor and Stow exist. In the stew of House, Void Dweller should be considered a point of origin. Make madness as you shall. Should you listen to Dweller diligently, here ever after I wish you, do your best to keep any sense of sense.

Spice is nice,
This review is from: Void Dweller (Audio CD)
The only reason I ever bought this cd was for track 3 which is 'Spice'!! All the other tracks I could care less for. I knew I had to have this song the first time I heard it in the club... nice and loud with the heavy bass smoke and lights. This is my favorite old school techno song. It should be rereleased and played at the clubs and raves for the young partiers of today.

I bought this strictly because of the song Spice. If you like house music, you can't beat it! The rest of the album is good too, but this one track will always be my favorite.
