Outstanding,
This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
Dr. Benjamin Silverstein and Dr. Neal Meyer are working on a top-secret experiment: cloning the perfect man. Well, we all know there is no such thing, since perfection in people just doesn't exist in this world, but this time they believe success is within their grasp. Their new creation appears to be perfect physically and mentally, but man is a three-fold being; physical, mental, and spiritual, and only God can create a soul. They name their creation Adam, after the first man, and everything seems...well, perfect. Then strange things begin to happen and they suspect they must have been off in their calculations, because something is teribly wrong with their perfect man.
Robbie Sanchez is a good policewoman, and the word quit isn't in her vocabulary. When policeman Brad Worthington is brutally murdered, she and her partners are in charge of the case. But this time Robbie is up against something too horrible to imagine. A genetically enhanced clone bent on destroying Christians. Mark Mynheir is a new writer for me and i'm delighted to have found him. His characters are so alive you can almost touch them, and he can't be beat for raw action and spine-tingling suspense. The Void is one of the most exciting books I've read this year. Highly recommended.

Something Overlooked,
By David Brollier "sonburst" (Huguenot, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
THE VOID, by Mark Mynheir is just absolutely amazing. I'm trying to wrangle him in with the Christian Fiction Review Blog. This guy looks at scientific advances, takes it a few steps further, then shows a gross oversight that is already being made. With the cloning of the sheep in Scotland some years back all kinds of ethical and moral issues have arisen, and behind them laws to keep scientists in check. Do we really believe that a few laws by the U.S. and some international committee is going to stop someone from cloning the first human? Seems to me that a claim of that sort has already been made. What are the ramifications if we let it continue? THE VOID cuts through all the legal garbage and lets you see what happens when certain boundaries are crossed. This is a fantastic, suspenseful novel with twists and turns that leave you hoping there will be a "happy ending", or at least one that isn't catastrophic. The only problem I can see is how long will THE VOID be able to stay on the fiction market? I mean, we're there already, chomping at the bit that will take us to the netherworld.

DON'T Avoid, "THE VOID!",
By
This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
I still remember thinking that getting a book by Mark Mynheir would be taking a chance. But chance or no chance, I remember that I wanted to know what "Rolling Thunder" was all about. I also remember that it was one of my favorite reads for 2005! And quite frankly, I held it a little bit higher then the first book of Dean Koontz's, "Frankenstein." And I thought NOTHING was going to be better. Well, now book #3 in "The Truth Chasers" happens to be the final installment. And it has no catchy title. "The Void," and I kind of think, DUH! But then again, I thought the same thing about "The Taking," by Dean Koontz, and I loved it. Well, throw away the idea of a non-catchy title, because I loved this!
You've read about Tim Porter, and you've read about John Russell. Now is the time to check out Robbie Sanchez! The thing about Robbie, she never seems to know when to rest. Days off have no meaning to her. Other then taking care of her mother, she's a 24/7 type of gal. Busts her butt, as far as Law Enforcement goes. So what's she gonna do about a police officer that gets murdered? Robbie is in charge of this case, and you better get out of her way! And the team has Eric Casey, the fallen officer's former partner, as well as best friend. The only clue they can come up with is Lifetex lab. What is Lifetex, and will their questions be answered? The answer is so brutal, as well as entirely snake like, and this is to be approached with caution! So, you thinking about giving this a try? I wouldn't advise avoiding, "The Void." Because if you're looking for a great, hair-raising story, with even better storytelling, look no further! Mark Mynheir is an author to look for in the future, and don't you doubt that for a second!

What a Mess!,

This review is from: The Void (Truth Chasers) (Kindle Edition)
I've read many e-books, and none are without a few errors, but this book was by far the worst. The content was fine. Mark Mynheir has become one of my favorite Christian suspense authors. The problem was figuring out where I was in Mynheir's story. In many places there was no formatting to indicate the shift from one sub-plot to the other, such as a chapter break or symbol or even a space. It just jarringly jumps to another scene right in the middle of a paragraph. Several words were unrecognizable, deciphered only through context clues. Missing periods and/or commas made for several run-on sentences. It is simply a mess. My guess is that nobody reviewed or edited the book before making it available as an ebook. If somebody did, that person needs to find another line of work. My advice for any other Mark Mynheir fans out there: buy the paperback for this particular story or skip it all together.

The VOID: For people with great imagination.,

I found The Void hardly believable, but near-okay in the genre of weird fantastica fiction. If you want to read about a modern-day Frankenstein from a sort-of Christian perspective, then this book is for you. I supposed it is the Christian answer to this sort of fiction, but it certainly is not well done. There is a reader's guide included.

Robbie Rocks,

This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although I would not normally enjoy the sci-fi perspective, Mynheir pulls it off well. I especially enjoy how he expresses the faith of the characters in a natural way. As a female in law enforcement I can tell you Robbie is an authentic female detective.

powerful police procedural science fiction thriller,
This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
Palm Bay, Florida police officer Brad Worthington is murdered while following up a tip from an informer. The town's police chief Patrick Gailey fears his officers will seek vengeance just like he wants to do so especially after seeing the rookie's widow's and small children. Instead being the consummate professional he calls in a favor with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the killing of a cop.
Agent Robbie Sanchez is assigned the inquiry, which leads her to nearby Lifetex biochemistry research lab. When the firm's CEO and chief scientist vanish, Robbie follows their trail. Soon she learns of Project Adam, a genetic experiment to enhance the DNA by cloning humans into potentially evil supermen. The third Thrill Chasers tale is an action packed tale that grips audience from the moment the Lifetex financial backers make it clear they want instant bottom line results and never slows down until the final twist. Whereas the first two dramas (see FROM THE BELLY OF THE DRAGON and ROLLING THUNDER) were inspirational pure police procedural tales; THE VOID contains powerful science fiction elements tied to the investigation. The key to the best Thrill Chaser to date is the testing of the beliefs of characters like Robbie who soon realizes that man's creation seems "greater" than God's creation. Harriet Klausner

Wild Story -- Well Told,
This review is from: The Void (The Truth Chasers Series #3) (Paperback)
I can't believe I haven't yet discovered Mark Mynheir's previous novels. Mynheir is an author worth watching. Tense, tight prose, fascinating police-work details, strong grasp of point of view, and a spine-tingling plot sucked me into The Void and didn't let me go until the heart-twisting conclusion. Though part of a series, I found this novel to be comfortable as a stand alone. I didn't feel overwhelmed with backstory nor did I feel like I'd thoroughly missed a chunk of previous life that would have helped flesh this story out. I will head back and pick up the titles I've missed. Suspense lovers, police novel fans, great story junkies...pick up The Void. Like Dekker, Hines, Liparulo, Gansky, Wilson or Collins? Add Mynheir to your list.

Interesting story, but lacked depth,

I heard a lot of raves about this book which got me interested in it. The storyline was interesting, but I felt it lacked some depth. The character development lacked in some parts, and areas of it were a bit fantastical. I don't mind books that depict spiritual warfare, but for some reason this one seemed a bit over the top.
It's a good read, but I don't see it as a very realistic thriller. Something like the Left Behind series depicts a much more real, gritty, and believable type of spiritual warfare story. |
