4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I Bought It!, July 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
I'll admit it, I bought this book because I liked its style. But the content is what has truly impressed me. I've found every exercise to be effective, especially because each exercise is fully illustrated and clearly explained. Voight's advice and delicious recipes have also helped me maintain my exercise program and lose weight. This book has given me the focus I needed to get in shape. One word of warning; if you have a bad back, like I do, be very careful when doing the lower back exercises in the book. Those exercises assume that the person doing them has a strong, flexible back and if you don't you can really hurt yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fitness Guru Writes!, December 29, 2000
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
If you are looking for an introduction to fitness, need some inspiration, or are just trying to figure out how to get into the exercise mind-set...this book can show you the way. You will want to read this book on a regular basis to keep yourself motivated and your dreams of becoming fit alive!

Karen has a philosophy of exercise, which comes across in all her videos and especially in this book. She believes in controlled movements for maximum results. You will not waste one minute if you follow her instructions. She is known for inspiring millions of women with her best-selling workout videos.

Karen believes that people don't follow through with their fitness program because it doesn't fit into their lifestyle.

"Understanding that exercise needs to be a priority in your life is essential to staying on a program." --Karen Voight

As a Karen Voight fan, I have collected her videos and have found them to be the best on the market. Her book is also the best fitness book for women I have found so far. Each picture in this book is Karen! She actually posed for each shot. In this way, she can literally show you how to do each exercise.

This book has many pages of pure text, and Karen is an excellent writer. She gives four steps to get your fitness program on track and then dives into a chapter on how to find real satisfaction from exercise. In the next chapter, she focuses on weight loss and lifestyle. After discussing the five guidelines you must follow to achieve low body fat and defined muscles, Karen gives attention to each muscle group by providing a series of sequential photographs to explain the exercises. (pg. 32-87).

These pages contain exercises for the arms, legs, buttocks, abdominals and back. You will recognize these exercises from the videos, but this book is nice to take with you when you are traveling. The last chapter of this book contains 20 most-asked questions. You can discover everything from beginning to exercise to how often you should exercise. This book is designed to inspire women of all fitness levels. One look at Karen's sleek physique and you will be running to your workout room! Karen has truly found total fitness. The kind which heals the body, mind and spirit. Her Yoga videos are also quite relaxing, yet challenging.

During you workout sessions, you might start to see roadblocks and this might keep you from working out. Karen explains the possible causes for these roadblocks and gives the solutions so you keep motivated and Karen can keep her credentials as a Top Instructor. She really excels at motivation and you can also trust her to give you the best information on fitness. She is unquestionably the leader in the fitness world. The fitness-savvy stars of Hollywood are quite fortunate to have her to instruct them. Now you can also have her as your very own in-home instructor. Just put in a video or take out this book and Karen's motivational message will walk into your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent form pointers and motivational!, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
I must admit I am NOT a fan of Karen Voight's videos; but, I got this book because of the beautiful photography and Karen's awesome physique (I can only dream!). The book shows an exercise program tailored more for women's needs, i.e. more lower body work at 70% load versus every other day. She has an excellent stretch section, and some pretty good recipes. I have tons of fitness books and this is one of my favorites!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book, July 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
This book is a work of art. I've never seen such beautiful photography in an exercise book. Excellent exercises for each area of the body (especially the back) and it's divided up nicely. Also, since it's spiral bound and quite large, you can lay it flat beside you as you work out. Great book when you need inspiration. She's a perfect fitness role model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great back exercises...worth the price of the book alone, May 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
I'm new to Karen Voight's exercise programs..only having tried some of her routines this year. I was so impressed with the video, that I decided to get the book. Another reviewer commented on the back exercises....I must admit that finding them in the book was a nice surprise, as most fitness instructions tend to focus on the usual bottom, abs, legs, and sometimes arms. After using the back exercises just a few times, I've noticed a nice line of separation around the spine. I tend to slouch sometimes, and my shoulders are now much squarer. I didn't think the book carried much on the way of the "mind", that's included in the title, but does address a proper fitness attitude. Also included are diet tips, and how to work fitness into a busy schedule. Great photos, and very simple explanations for the workouts. Karen says in the book that she used to dance and model swimsuits, and that her exercises are geared to those 2 body types. Her figure alone is a testament to her system. This book is worth the investment!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated guide to women's fitness, August 19, 2005
This review is from: Voight: Precision Training for Body & Mind (Paperback)
Renowned fitness instructor Karen Voight released this book in 1996 as an exercise and weight loss guide for women. Her goal was to help women to commit themselves to a healthy lifestyle and to make exercise a priority in their lives. She identifies five factors that are particularly important for helping women to achieve low body fat and defined muscles as follows: 1) moderate intensity, 2) high frequency, 3) long duration, 4) lower body emphasis, and 5) compound followed by an individual exercise. Keeping these factors in mind, she present chapters on five main body areas--arms, legs, buttocks, abdominals, and back--offering a series of weighted exercises as well as precise instruction for each of these areas. She also includes an excellent chapter on stretching, an often-neglected but necessary part of a fitness regimine.

Follow the exercise information, Karen offers helpful motivational tips and then moves into healthy eating. Here, I found her information to be a bit dated. Although her "seven sensible menus" would still be fairly viable today, some of her recommendations--e.g., to snack on carbs-ladden rice cakes--are not as current. But for the most part, however, Karen Voight has managed to create a timeless fitness manual which is enhanced by the beautiful, sepia-toned photographs of Karen's amazingly fit body executing the exercises. This would be a helpful book for any woman looking to embark on a basic exercise program as taught by a master instructor.
