Inexpensive 75mm Rangefinder Lens That's a Fine Performer......,
By
This review is from: Voigtlander Color Heliar 75mm f/2.5 Telephoto Manual Focus Lens - Silver (Electronics)
The Voigtlander Color Heliar 75mm f2.5 moderate telephoto lens is one of the optical jewels in the Cosina-built Voigtlander line, winning ample praise from critics and users alike. Rumor has it that this lens is based optically on an unproduced Leitz design made by the late Dr. Walter Mandler, Leitz Canada's lens designer, who is perhaps best known for designing the 75mm Summilux-M lens. Regardless of whether or not this rumor is true, I do know that this lens is a superb performer in its own right. Anyone who uses either a Leica screwmount or M bayonet mount rangefinder camera may find this fine optic quite useful as a moderate telephoto lens, and a genuine bargain when compared to Leica's 75mm lenses (Users of M bayonet mount rangefinder cameras such as the Voigtlander R2/R3 series, Konica Hexar, Zeiss Ikon and Leica M series will need a screw mount to M mount adaptor to mount this lens onto their cameras.). I have seen splendid images taken with this Voigtlander lens that show how sharp and contrasty it is, even at its maximum aperture of f2.5, even when the image is enlarged up to 11 x 14 inches.
