Extending And Refining Their Sound In Another Direction, April 12, 2010
This review is from: Voirshn (Audio CD)
Somewhat less heavily modulated than its predecessor, "Xuvetyn" and even more textural, "Voirshn" is lovesliescrushing operating at a more atmospheric level and less than a distortive one, with the waves of guitar reduced almost to pulsations that sound less shimmering than gelled together. Some percussive elements persist on this release, but even they are employed in an ambient fashion. Melissa Arpin's role as singer is diminished as well, as her vocals seem to emerge from the music.
And yet despite all of this I was pleasantly surprised by the direction Scott Cortez took with this release. He is essentially deconstructing the sound listeners became accustomed to on "Bloweyelashwish" and "Xuvetyn", making it more heavily processed while simutaneously removing some of the extraneous noise-for-noise's sake. It's both a logical next step and a pleasantly unexpected one, though not for listeners expecting the guitar and percussion work on the previous two releases to be extended and refined. However, the ambient tone it creates offers even more of a soothing series of soundscapes than their previous recordings.

Heavenly noise, melodic chaos, May 15, 2008
This review is from: Voirshn (Audio CD)
Lovesliescrushing just seems to get better & better with each new release, refining their sound to a paradoxical purity ... it's sheer sonic washes of the angelic, electronic thunder & murmur of disintegrating stars, overlaid with softly burred, ethereal female vocals. By all rights, this shouldn't work at all! Yet it does, beautifully & rapturously. It's simultaneously the music of the universe at some sub-atomic level, and the most intimate of yearning & cooing from the soul itself. Certainly not for everyone, but highly recommended for those who wish to be transported to a plane of shimmering bliss!

*Lovesliescrushing's fourth released album "Voirshn" is a must-have compendium to Glissceule. Ethereal voices from Melissa with otherworldly guitar from Scott. Beautiful soundscapes to ease your mind.
