Ana Kefr is one of those special bands that transcends the bounds of their genre by casting off the typical angst-ridden persona characteristic to most metal music and really achieving something spectacular in terms of the thematic weight of their message. Don't get me wrong - if you're an extreme metal fan, you'll definitely find a piece of yourself here, as these guys never fail to hit you with everything they've got. There's a complex synthesis of all sorts of subgenres in this album, blended together with a mastery unprecedented in a debut record. Conceptually tied together with a series of instrumental interludes called 'Chapters', a holistic appreciation of the album lends it a sense of being an epic, multi-act play.

But take a closer look at the lyrics and a whole new facet comes into view: a prime directive to smash the wobbly supports of the corrosive belief systems that yet hold sway over our world. Whether taking on religion, politics, race relations, or any of the other myriad social problems plaguing modern civilization, Ana Kefr bars no holds and takes no prisoners in the relentless vitriol. It's for this reason that the band is so accessible to freethinkers, atheists, and anyone else who's ever questioned the motives behind all of the illogical behaviors and beliefs of their fellow men: anyone spending enough time mulling over these issues *has* to become angry eventually. This band is an outlet and a sanctuary for all those who live, quietly yet enraged, in our crumbling society.

This band going big wouldn't be evidence of a sell-out; it would be a harbinger of humanity regaining its sanity, reacquiring perspective, and bettering itself - and that's not hyperbole. That being said, I'm more than excited to see what these guys have in store for us on the second volume of their saga.

At last, creativity, originality, and lyrics with something to say. Pair that with rich sonic textures and song structures that threaten to smack you in the face, and you have a true masterpiece on your hands that seems to defy genre labeling.
From the deceptively delicate piano opening of 'Avenue of the Queen', to the melodic groove of 'The Giant Who Has No Heart in His Body', to the dense guitar and vocal layering of 'Takeover', to the epic stunner that is 'The Orchid', this is truly a band with no limits for a world with high expectations.

Currently, I write album reviews for a hard rock and heavy metal webzine. When I came across Ana Kefr's "volume 1," earlier this year, I was surprisingly amazed! So many of the bands that I review are mostly garbage mixed with a tiny bit of creativity. Ana Kefr is unlike anything I have ever heard, and I wouldn't doubt if it leads metal down a completely new path. The singer's voice is amazing! This is my new favorite band.

I first discovered Ana Kefr last year, and I have been hooked ever since. I have to admit, when I first heard that they had covered one of my all time favorite Rollins Band songs; 'Step Back' with My Ruin, I wasn't really that pleased, I mean that song as a duet? But let me tell you, it works, and it's very kick a$$! That song is what orginally pulled me into the Kefr way.
After falling in love with 'Step Back' and the gut wrenching 'T.ruthless', I immediately bought the album, and was very pleased! Actually amazed is more like it. The lyrics are thought-provoking, which you don't see too often when it comes to metal bands these days, and the music itself is epic, and hardcore, with scrapes and touches of ethereal melodies. I really like the blending of the keyboards with the metal...it really works!

Volume 1, is triumph for Ana Kefr,(Congrats, Guys!) and if you are hungering for something new and different from the same old metal, then...BUY THIS ALBUM! Different doesn't mean lame in this case! No, not at all!
