This is one of my favorite discs. The title "Classic Disco" is generally a cue for one to start puking at tired old songs. Not this one.

The guys at Mastercuts compiled this with care. Definitely in the disco spirit, but this album really collects top notch tracks, few of which are the same-old, same-old obvious tracks. 11 of the 12 songs are full 12" mixes also, some of them rare. So its one for the true collectors and dance music lovers.

My favorite is the Sylvester song "I Need You". Tracy Weber's sure shot, is another nice one, provided here as a Larry Levan 12" mix.

Most of all, this album just fits together seamlessly. The tracks are not mixed/faded, but they flow seamelesly in spirit. You put it on and you could be hearing a live DJ mix.

Highly recommended for all disco fans and folks who want to explore some of the precursors of garage music (ie early 1980's post-disco/pre-house music).

I purchased this album back in '95 in London's Camden Town at a CD/vinyl place called 'Out On The Floor'.

Each track (except maybe the first, because I think the singer is kind of 'whiny' or 'nasally') bangs. What is more, all the tracks are quite different in terms of the breaks that make an appearance (e.g., 'DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO'), vocal styles (compare the Sylvester track with 'Body Moving' (?)).

A wonderful buffet of camp disco, funk and disco, and even a dash of soul (especially the track 'Shame' - Evelyn King??).

A classic in its diverse, ear-grabbing sounds. A must-buy!
