Not Deep, just good, October 13, 2006
This review is from: Vol. 1-Malice in Wonderland (Audio CD)
This is really not anything like Deep Purple. I mean other than Jon Lord's organ sound and Ian Paice drumming, which really is not that noticable as a Deep Purple sound, this is nothing like Deep Purple.
Ashton has a great voice for that blues sound, and he does a great job on the album. They never went far, well because, it was not going to make all the Deep Purple fans happy, but it is good music and would appeal more to diverse listenners than hard rockers. I think it went well in Europe, from what I read on the internet, but the cost of moving all those musicians to get the live sound must of been to expensive to continue the tour.
Thus this is rare stuff and there is a live version that you can get out their on Amazon, with bonus tracks. Ashton died at an early age, so this makes it even more rare. If you read about Ashton out there on the internet, you will find some interesting stuff that makes this album all the more sweet to have.

I love this album, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Vol. 1-Malice in Wonderland (Audio CD)
I purchased this because I am a Deep Purple fan, have listened to it for 20+ years now, and just recently rediscovered it. Not hard rock, but excellent music with lots of energy. Tony Ashton is not a singer that will wow you, but his voice fits the music.
Ian Paice does an unusually good job on the album - I can sense he is reenergized and having fun after the Purple debacle with Tommy Bolin. Same for Jon Lord. I don't know who the bass player is, but he plays with energy and authority and also does a great job.
Highly Recommended!

Great Album, June 28, 2004
This review is from: Vol. 1-Malice in Wonderland (Audio CD)
This is an album for everyone, it is not hard rock, but it is very good. The vocals are very good, the previous reviewer must have listened to it once. Listen to this album and make your own decision. I will guarantee that after a few times it will become one of your favorite albums. Top notch musicianship !
