5.0 out of 5 stars Sign Language in the Classroom, December 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Vol. 2 - Patriotic Songs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Say, Sing, and Sign series is a great way to introduce sign language in the classroom. Not only can it be used to help with communication, linguistic development in pre- and early lingual children, but it is also another way to introduce multi-culturism and tolerance lessons in the classroom. This video series uses songs to reinforce the given sign language vocabulary and does it in a fun yet easy to follow format. With recent studies indicating higher test scores for hearing children who use sign language, every teacher of young children should consider incorporating sign langauge into their curriculum. The Songs Vol 2 is not for beginners but the Mother Goose, Colors, or Nursery Rhymes sure is. The videos also reinforce lessons they're already learning, like ABCs and numbers. Having frustratingly tried to learn sign language from books in order to teach my students, I'm relieved to have found this video series. Also, it's a great idea for any school plays or pageants. There's not a dry eye in the house when our preschoolers sing and sign one of the beautifully recorded songs from this series.
