Corsten has proved himself a leader of Prog. Trance,

System F (DJ Ferry Corsten) is a person that no one answers to in the trance world. With the release of Trance Nation 3 (which I highly recommend), and Trance Nation 4, which starts out with a slightly less melodic beat (but still very good), and this album as a successor, Corsten has proved to be truly great. This album once again shows his talent in even more ways, adding everything from pounding bass and beat in DJ Tiesto's 'Flight 643' to more melodic vocal songs such as Tenth Planet's 'Ghosts'. When it comes to this DJ, it's all good. Like other Dutch artists such as DJ Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, Corsten is able to seemlessly blend hard trance with and a euphoric, pulsing melody and vocals. It is truly wonderful music for any person interested in fast trance. It is a good CD to start a trance collection. Other trance essentials I recommend are Alice Deejay's 'Who Needs Guitars Anyway' and Darude's 'Before the Storm'. If you like double disc sets, I strongly recommend checking out the Gatecrasher series.

What a much needed come back from MOS and Ferry Corsten. This release is amazing bringing up some really progressive trance. Forgive me for saying but i think this is better than Trance Nation 1. That annoying original track warrior is even remixed into an amazing track. Corsten plays with you through out this CD. If you like progressive trance this is probably the best one ever. If you have any heart or blood pressure problems consult your physician before listening.........Im not kidding.

This CD shows why MoS is still #1 in dance music. It is well mixed by no other then Ferry Corsten, one of the best DJs in the world. The tracks are all very good, probably their best CD since TN1.

I love TranceNation series. It alwasy has the hottest tracks. This CD is no exception. On the other hand, i also suggest Trance Match series. The latest album has lots similar songs. If I have to choose, I will go with Trance Match.

Those of you familiar with Ferry Corsten/System F know that there is a usually more uplifting/progressive style to his mixes, but with this series he always seems to sum up the past year in trance in an excellent 2 Cd compilation. This year is no exception with tracks like Deliver Me, the very popular Touch Me, Dj Tiesto's Flight 643, Pistol Whip, Love has come again and many many more popular tracks. You even see some oldie but goodie tracks in here such as Jan Johnston's Flesh, and Skydive. These CDs are a must have for anyone who liked the mixes played in the 1st half of this year and the last half of this year. To sum it up in one sentance. Corsten does it again, 5 stars.

Corsten Once again,

Ferry Corsten has come through once again on his Trance Nation albums. So far each album has been rather unique demonstrating the current popular style of trance. With Trance Nation 2001 we once again see the new tracks (Flight 643 - DJ Tiesto)mixed in with a couple of old proven numbers(Thrillseekers - Synaesthia). As always Ferry has managed to dig-up a slightly different version of the tracks though for this latest disc. The key word for this newest album would definitely be "vocals". For the most part they fit in rather well, but now and again they can seem a little out of place on the songs you know well - Velvet Moods - for example. Other than that the disc is pretty good and stays true to the whole Trance nation series. Nothing overly fantastic, but a good sampleling of what's what right now coming from Europe. Corsten's choice of tracks this time has been towards a little darker, or stronger sound. Not quite the high power synth that he normally chooses (except maybe his own track Tenshi - Gouryella)

After being lured into the realm of trance by Disc 2 of Trance Nation America (mixed by Jimmy Van M), I began buying more Trance compilations by Ministry of Sound. Luckily I snapped out of it within 12 months. Why? Firstly, MOS puts out some of the worst (tied with Gategrasher) mixed compilations out there. Whether it's trance, anthems, Clubbers' Guide, The Annual, whatever. They are mostly terrible and very poorly mixed. I highly doubt that the DJ's listed on most of their album covers actually mix the set in the studio themselves. They probably hand over a list of tracks and maybe the sequence, but no-name Joe, does all the "mixing".
Anyway, back to Trance Nation 2001. It's terrible. Disc 1 makes my head dizzy with all the similar sounding female vocal anthem tracks. There is one saving grace on this disc. "Pistol Whip" by Joshua Ryan made it on the track list. Disc 2 is slightly better in track selection. The overplayed, overused, but always enjoyable, "Baguio Track" by Luzon provides mild evidence that Corsten has some taste in music. Although the Bedrock Remix is one of my least favorites of the 101 Remixes of this great track. Disc 1 2/5 stars, and disc 2, 2.5/5 stars.

not his dreamy happy stuff but good effort,
This review is from: Vol. 5-Trance Nation 2001 (Audio CD)
I love Ferry Corsten for his dream-like epic anthems he is reknown for...but I think he was probably experimenting a little here moving more towards darker themes with added vocals.... He still maintains some of his traditional tunes eg Gouryella's Tenshi track 14 is amazing....

Trance Nation 2001 is the 5th and latest TN title from Ministry. I was looking forward to getting this one and i am glad i wasn't dissapointed. Sure its fairly expensive, but it is an import with 32 tracks on two cds. More then enough to keep you dancing for at least a few months. now I must say on a whole these two discs have some premium tunes. The best dance cd of 2001? yes.

TN 5 -- Corsten does it again,

This review is from: Vol. 5-Trance Nation 2001 (Audio CD)
Trance Nation 5 comes in strong after an impressive showing of Trance Nation 4. MOS and Corsten fans will not be dissapointed with this aggresive mix full of great tracks.CD 1 is by far, in my opinion, superior than disc 2. It's almost like they piled everything onto disc 1 then put all the "iffy" stuff on disc 2 (which is still great, but compared to disc 1 it's hard to hold up!) CD 1 has a lot of popular club/dance hits that are remixed by Corsten flawlessly. He continues to be one of the masters of the industry. CD 2 still has some good tracks (Tiesto's 643, Beautiful Strange) but for the most part it's a bit erratic and just not as smooth and addictive as disc 1. Overall, a great set, I would buy it just for the first disc. I would give the first one 6 stars if I could, but the 2-disc set is hurt by second one. Also, if you like this, I would highly recommend Corsten's new Trance Nation 2002 release, it is another great hit by the man. |
