Aikido’s Ueshiba features Master Morihei Ueshiba. He can be seen in this video performing Aikido at its very best. Not only will you see the founder but also his son and other great Aikido Masters like Tohei Saito and Shioda when they were very young. The video also includes a sequence of night time shots that feature the Master demonstrating very rare sword and jo techniques in the forest. This video is in extremely good condition and has been created from 8mm film. Approx 36 minutes B/W

There is a label on the tape warning you about the quality of the older footage. Ignore it, open the tape, watch it. Yes, alright, some of the older footage isn't up to modern production standards and it occasionally damages the presentation of an otherwise brilliant move, but the overall tape more than makes up for these occasional problems. Just the information on O'Sensei and why he started Aikido alone makes it worthwhile. You won't learn Aikido from this tape, but you might learn why you should learn Aikido.

To start with, the video (not the 8mm original film which I knew would be home made) was of extremely poor visual quality. Vertical bands of interference moved jerkily across the picture. Although the beginning of the tape had a decent monologue and some interesting pictures of O Sensei, the last two thirds was of largely uninteresting pictorial musings mismatched with poorly chosen music that itself was interrupted often with skips and silences. I am returning it and asking for credit instead of an exchange. There has to be a better video of O Sensei!

See what Aikido is all about! This video has nothing to do with moderne Aikido. Morihei Ueshiba demonstration are simply amazing, he thruly expresse what is Aikido: The way of harmony
