2012 collection, the seventh collection of unreleased material from the pioneering Electronica outfit. Brian Dougans and Garry Cobain began their musical partnership and friendship in Manchester, England, in the mid 1980's whilst the two were studying at Manchester University. Dougans had already been making electronic music for some time when they first began working in various local clubs. The Future Sound of London are still active as writers and producers, working behind the scenes with celebrity artists and on film scores, along the way accumulating revisiting music from their vaults and enhancing to bring fans a series of albums, From The Archives .
You'd think that by volume 7 the vaults would be getting rather bare (especially considering that the 7 "From the Archives" releases outnumber FSOL's major label LPs by 3 discs . But this CD stands up well against brilliant works like ISDN and Dead Cities. And of the entire "From the Archives" series, this volume sounds the most like a cohesive album. They could easily have given it formal title, and it would stand up well alongside any of their landmark CDs.
If you haven't tried any of the "From the Archives" discs, they are all surprisingly good, but this could be an excellent and very satisfying place to start. If you are totally unfamiliar with FSOL, I'd suggest ISDN or Lifeforms first, but this would be a great 3rd purchase.
