Some of John Coltrane's most accessible work was from 1959 and 1960. He was developing his unique harmonic progressions based on chord sequences in thirds instead of in fourths and incorporating them into attractive arrangments of standards. This book concentrates on this period and provides good transcriptions, chord progressions, and practice materials for learning to play Coltrane originals like "Giant Steps" and "Spiral" and also a couple of standards. I especially like Coltrane's treatment of "But Not for Me". This book provides a good starting place to expanding your harmonic vocabulary and I recommend it highly.
