4.0 out of 5 stars Great tunes - A worthwhile purchase, July 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Vol. 56, Thelonious Monk (Book & CD Set) (Audio CD)
If you're familiar with Aebersold's Play-Along series, this is a great one to add to your collection. But there are some astonishing tempo problems in the rhythm section. (Compare the opening tempo of In Walked Bud with the closing tempo. Whoa!) Good for intermediate level players with improv experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars a true genius, March 1, 2002

at times it seems that music has no meaning. Thelonius was not at thi time. Whether it was a spiritual infuence or just blind luck. Thelonius can be compared to the great classical innovators. He is truely an icon as well as an example on how to create beautiful music that isn't a product of a 21st century capitalist market.
