5.0 out of 5 stars I used to go crazy for days at a time....
Now I'm taking my time with my days. Once again, Jimmy creates an album filled with some of his best songwriting that will never see the light of a greatest hits or live album. But that's the way it should be. I want to keep these gems for myself. OK, I'm going to get personal, but Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants( Song for the Children) is one of the most beautiful...

3.0 out of 5 stars Buffett's new groove
This album picks up where Son of a Son of Sailor left off, offering a snappy Calypso beat to such songs as Volcano. Fins would spawn a whole new generation of fans, which later dubbed themselves "Parrotheads." But, as far as Buffett albums go, this is one of his weakest, playing into the cliches of life in the Carribean, and turning his bar in Key West into a...

Now I'm taking my time with my days. Once again, Jimmy creates an album filled with some of his best songwriting that will never see the light of a greatest hits or live album. But that's the way it should be. I want to keep these gems for myself. OK, I'm going to get personal, but Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants( Song for the Children) is one of the most beautiful songs Jimmy (or anyone) has ever written. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Stranded on a Sandbar is reason enough to by this album. I'm sure everyone's felt that way before. Dreamsicle is one of those little gems you find on evert Buffett album and ask yorself "why isn't this a hit?" OK, there are 3 tunes that are concert favorites, Fins, Volcano, and Boat Drinks but they're fun and don't bug me like Cheeseburger and Drunk do. Besides, Boat drinks is an anthem to anyone living north of Florida during the winter. Final note to all of you who sing along with Volcano. Jimmy yells out "Mr. Utley!" as in Michael, the keyboardest. Not "Mr. Ugly!" As I've heard before.5 stars. The Big Kahuna says check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants, November 17, 2003

This song was heard (for the first time) after 40 or 50 other Jimmy Buffett songs - it was electrifying. Jimmy Buffett has many tuneful and rhythmic 4 and 5 star (my own rating system) selections to rock all night with, but Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants is both different and terrific, as good as anything by any other artist at any time, a rare '6' on the five star scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Did Jimmy peak in 1979?, February 25, 2000

After just hearing Beach House on The Moon, I feel the need tohear this CD again... This is the album where I believe Jimmy'sSouthern upbringing met his Carribean passion to make for arguable the best recording he has ever put out. As someone below noted, the concert faves included Fins, Boat Drinks and Volcano, but the key to remember here is that this is an album from beginning to end with very few, if any, flaws at all. Each song has something to offer. Other albums that followed like Coconut Telegraph and Last Mango and Barometer Soup had good tracks, but didn't flow as well as this offering. Especially if you have a rum runner and a CD player with random-play mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buffet Rocks, September 22, 2005

I am a long-time Buffet fan. Volcano is, by far, my favorite album. We spend many hours on our pontoon boat, slowly following the lakeshore. Every cottage on the lake is now familar with the words to each and every song on this recording. This is an easy listening, and "feeling good" album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Own, November 9, 2002
By
This review is from: Volcano (Audio CD)
Jimmy was definitely in a groove when he produced this album. Besides including classics like "Volcano" "Fins" and "Boat Drinks" you can find delicately crafted ballads like "Chanson" and "Dreamsicle" (One of my personal favorites)hidden away like treasures. Jimmy is underrated as a songwriter and lyricist. Is there anyone who rhymes better? Has this guy ever made a bad album?

We all love you Jimmy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fins to the left, fins to the right..., March 26, 2002

"Volcano" is the album to have!!!! To newer JB fans, this is a great start to a collection. It has so many great songs, and many of the songs we do know by heart!
"Fins", "Volcano", and "Boat Drinks" are all staples of Buffett's, but let's not overlook "Treat her like a lady" and "Survive"( I Have heard this one in concert, amazing!!!), and "Sending the old man home".
For the Parakeets there is "Chanson Pour les Petits Enfants", which has a very childlike quality to it. He did this the last time I saw him in concert, and it was just so sweet.
I took French in high school, which was quite a few years ago, but I am sure it translates as "A Song for the little children".
JB has a nice soothing voice, and it is a fairy tale that will entice many children old enough to really appreciate music.

This is one you should have!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars What you'd expect from Jimmy, March 7, 2006
By
This review is from: Volcano (Audio CD)
Listening to Volcano is like listening to a cliche of what Jimmy Buffett has become. Good time tunes with humor and occasional touching insight. I always had the impression that Jimmy wrote this album for his growing island loving fan base rather than writing it for himself - ala "writing my music for me". It is a good effort with good songs but the only song that really seems to touch heart is "Treat her like a Lady". I still listen to it often, but it isn't my favorite.

Another delightful slice of Buffett's calypso style is very ear catching to me. The Calypso beats of Volcano and Boat Drinks are indeed pleasant. Is there any lyricist today that can match Jimmy's ability to create a scene? I doubt it.

5.0 out of 5 stars There isn't a parrothead who doesn't love this album!, July 21, 1998

They just haven't been able to stop doing "fins to the left, fins to the right" to put their fingers on the keyboard to write a review. Quintessential Buffett. You're not a parrothead if you haven't had to replace this album because you (1) wore yours out, (2) gave it away, or (3) lost it since you take it everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straight from Jimmy's Heart, August 22, 2002

Out of all these reviews, one of my all time favorite Buffett songs keeps getting glanced over: "Stranded on a Sand Bar". Maybe it's because I love my boat as much as Jimmy loves his, but this song hits home every single time. This album contains several concert populars, but "Stranded" came from Jimmy's true island soul, and is reason enough to add this album to any collection. "Survive" too is full of meaning, with it's beautiful harmonic verses, enough to make you cry...
I'd give anything to see Jimmy do these two songs live. And finally, "Treat Her Like a Lady", a sailor's song to his beloved ocean. Not unlike "Brandy" by Gordon Lightfoot.. a man in love with the sea can never leave her, and that's what I get out of Buffett. Classic Fingers Taylor for sure, that all PHans should own.
