While certainly for proficient readers, it's an excellent overview of volcanoes in general and of specific ones throughout history. Thorough, encyclopedic coverage is accompanied by simplified, clear topographic maps and diagrams that are difficult to locate elsewhere. About the Author

Alwyn Scarth served as lecturer in geography at the University of Dundee 1962-93. His previous publications include works on volcanic landforms of Central France, Nisyros, and the volcanic nature of the Polyphemus tale in Homer's Odyssey.

A wonderful piece that covers all one needs to know about volcanoes.Definitely a student's handbook, easy to read and understand and is suitable reading material for any age. One is captured by the amount of information cover in such a small text.
