Hit or miss, but there are some great heavy rock bands on display here,

I wasn't familiar with the Volcom label prior to downloading their 2010 label sampler, but when I saw Valient Thorr on the list, I knew I should check this out. You get 10 songs by nine (Pepper is on there twice) Volcom artists. I suppose you could call at least some of them stoner rock.
The first half of the sampler is full of bands that worship Sabbath and Motorhead, but the second half seems more like Sublime type bands. Valient Thorr, Year Long Disaster and ASG are my favorites, but I couldn't really get into Pepper, Sabotage Soundsystem or Goons of Doom. I downloaded this when it was free, so obviously I got my money's worth. As much as I enjoy some of the bands featured here, I don't think I would recommend paying for the sampler - at least not full price. Still, if you're into heavier bands and are looking for some new blood, this sampler ought to point you in the right direction. |
