5.0 out of 5 stars all hail Rammstein, January 4, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rammstein: Volkerball (DVD)
This is the special edition of Voelkerball which comes with 2 DVDs and a live CD in a CD sized digipak which folds out. This DVD is in the NTSC format so you won't have a problem playing it on a regular DVD player in America. There is also a booklette which has the song names and is filled with black and white pictures also on the back it says 'to be continued'.

The first concert footage is one that took place in France in an ampatheater and it's a full concert with 19 songs. It is also the best out of all the concert footage that they show here. They are wearing lederhosen type costumes that are black and it looks kindda funny and of course Till and Flake run around and act goofy. There are a lot of pyrotechnics going on like the fire masks, flaming mikes, flamethrowers, sparks shooting out all over the place and they use a lot of light effects more than on their other DVDs. Overall this is a very good show full of good songs, great effects and energy and the only problem I can think of is that Till seems to lose his voice at times and sometimes he's hard to hear but this is still a good concert.

The next concert footage is in England but they only show them play 4 songs. I didn't really care for this footage because they show the audience too much and I didn't like some of the camera angleing. Also they played a couple of the same songs from the French concert but overall the footage is okay.

The next concert footage is from Japan and they play 2 songs plus they show a trailer. Again the 2 songs that they do play were also played in France but it's not that much of a problem here but the little trailer they showed is just clips of the concert and of fans.

The last concert footage is from Russia and they play Moscau which they didn't play in France and they have some woman on stage woman on stage singing and dancing with them. The problem that I have with this song is that throughout it they cut to footage of them in Russia and meeting fans so it ruins the atmosphere of the song it would have been okay if they showed it at the end or beggining of the song but what can you do?

The extra DVD is has a documentary where the band and manager talk about the shows and touring which would be okay to wath every now and then. However there is also a making of which is just boring and not really worth watching. There are subtitles in english, spanish, portuguese, french, japanese and german.

The CD is taken from the show in France and it has 15 of the 19 songs. The cd is good with no real problems but I'd rather watch and hear the footage than just hear it.

All the songs in all the concert footage and on the CD: Reise, Reise, links 234, keine lust, Feuer frei!, Asche zu Asche, Morgenstern, Mein Teil, Stein um Stein, Los, Du Riechst So Gut, Benzin, Sehnsucht, America, Rammstein, Sonne, Ich Will, Ohne Dich, Stripped, Rein Raus, Moskau

I would reccomend this DVD to anyone who likes Rammstein or who likes to watch a good show. Whether you get this special edition or the cheaper one without the documentary is up to you just as long as it's Voelkerball by Rammstein because you'll love it .

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!!!!!, August 23, 2007
By
Bluzfan1 (Illinois in the U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rammstein: Volkerball (DVD)
Volkerball, the latest musical assault by German metal Gods Rammstein, is A). TOTALLY WOW!!!! B). TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! C). TOTALLY INCREDIBLE!!!! or D). TOTALLY ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!! If you didn't answer "D", what in the hell is wrong with you?!?!? lol I've reviewed many live concert DVD's in my time, and the chief complaint I have are the bad editing jobs, which in many cases not only distract from the show itself, but ruin it as well. (see Black Sabbath's "The Last Supper" and Aerosmith's "You Gotta Move" DVD's as the perfect examples of crappy editing!) In my silly world way of thinking, a live concert DVD's #1 job is to make the viewer feel as though they're actually at the event? And that's accomplished by showing the concert in its entirety and without the music being interrupted by silly interviews, backstage footage, home movies, and other bonus material which belong in the BONUS SECTION ONLY!!!! (are you reading this silly editor geeks?) Thankfully, Volkerball is a prime example of what happens when the editor lets the concert speak for itself. And this show speaks volumes my friends! To begin with, the set list is pretty impressive, giving us a nice blend of old & new music without repeating too much of what's already been released on the "Live Aus Berlin" and "Lichtspielhaus" DVD's. As for the sound quality, it's amazing! Now i'm not getting into this technical crap about 5.1 channel this and DST whatever blah blah blah! (man! we're a spoiled society today, aint we! lol) I mean if I was sitting in the stadium itself watching the actual show, would I be worried or even thinking about that? All I would care about is whether the house was rockin' down, which is the same care I had when popping this DVD into the player, and guess what? My house was rockin', rattlin', & rollin' throughout the entire show! The mixing job was great and the singing and playing blended beautifully without any one instrument dominating the other. The crowd was loud & exciting and excellently captured on the mics, so good that if you closed your eyes you'd swear you were actually sitting among 30,000 screaming fans.

If there's any CONS about this DVD, they're personal. First, I would have LOVED to see Dalai Lama & Mein Herz Brennt on the set list. But only because they're 2 favorites of mine. (their omittance doesn't take any points away from this awesome show.) Second, the camera does tend to jump around quite a bit, and it's hard sometimes to focus & soak in what you're seeing on the screen. And that's about it? lol I've heard some people complain that there are way too many fan shots during the show, and I agree that the camera's did alot of crowd mingling throughout. I wasn't bothered by that so much however, as the crowd was loud and totally into the show, and in my opinion the perfect compliment to a perfect event and certainly deserving of their fifteen minutes of fame. lol

This show has been released on single disc, 2-disc, 3-disc, and 4-disc sets. The interviews and other extras involved are cool and definitely worth viewing at least once. And worth the extra dollars to add them to your collection. But the real money maker in this set..the concert itself and the clips from other concerts around the world..is what makes this set worth its weight in gold! So even those on a tight budget can't lose if all they can afford is the single or 2-disc versions?

The bottom line..GET THIS! You wont regret it even if you're not a Rammstein fan to begin with! A+++++++++++

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Rammstein: Volkerball (DVD)
When I first purchased this amazing DVD of musical profusion, I was quite skeptical about its contents. Once I pressed play on my DVD player I was absolutely proven wrong. Everything about the Voelkerball performance in Nimes, France or Frankreich as they call it in Deutschland is amazing. The lighting and pyrotechnics are superbly superb. Even something as simple as "Flake" riding a Segway transitions an extremely brutal breakdown packed with fire and awesomeness to the sultry song of Ohne Dich. I recommend this DVD to anyone wanting to amuse, not only themselves but their friends as well. The intensness of everything within is worth every dollar, or Euro... depending on where you live.
