Kerry Christensen: A Paragon of Yodeling,
By Georgia Richards (Apache Junction, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Volksmarsch (Audio CD)
There are few, if any, who can match Kerry Christensen's yodeling prowess. His O NO KIMOSABE reflects a great sense of humor along with nonpareil yodeling. He is truly THE Master of the Yodel. His hauntingly beautiful Alpenhorn reditions are too good to miss. His lovely daughter (on cover) shows extraordinary ability rendering the yodels. A REAL TREAT! If you appreciate fine yodeling don't miss this album!

Alpine Yodeling by the Master,

All yodeling makes you laugh. Bad yodeling makes you laugh and then grows tiresome; good yodeling provides an endless source of laughter and mirth. This is an example of good yodeling--yodeling so good that it makes you wonder at times how it's physically possible. This album features Kerry's daughter Emilie, who sang a couple of the tracks on "Hooked on Yodeling," as well. Here, she provides the second voice for many of the duets, which I had previously heard only with Kerry singing both parts (such as Bergvagabunden, Tiroler Bravour, and Wenn I auf hohen Bergen Steh'). A couple of the songs on this album have little or no yodeling on them (such as Alpen Echo), and these are still good, but not as impressive as the uncomparable yodeling. Almost all of the tracks are Alpine-themed yodeling (except for "O No Kimosaube," which is a delightful--though very strange-- rendition of the William Tell Overture), which I personally prefer to the Old West style. This stuff transports you straight to Switzerland (or perhaps to parts of Disneyland). It would make a great gift for someone who is homesick for Bavaria, or for anyone who appreciates a wide variety of musical genres (what do you get for the person who has everything??). I think that "Hooked on Yodeling" is the best sampler CD for the moderate yodeling fan or for those who are curious about hearing impressive yodeling (the Chicken Yodel is about the coolest thing you'll ever hear), but "Volksmarsch" is an excellent addition to your yodeling collection, and it's ideal for those wishing to experience the Alps in the comfort of their own home.

This is of very poor quality. The performer is fine but the instrumentation sounds fake and the overall audio sounds muffled. I have returned it for credit which is pending.

I love his yodel CD. He is sooooo good !!I love both Country and Swiss, but Swiss is my favorite, and has been for over 40 years. My granddaughter surprised me last year, on my 75th B-Day, and took me to Switzerland for a 10 day trip...I was thrilled, as I never thought it would be possible for me to ever get there!! Didn't get to hear as much of their yodeling as I would have liked, but too busy w/ the tours, etc. but a GREAT trip !! |
