Don't let the pink cover fool you., June 27, 2011
This review is from: The Volkswagen Beetle (On the Road (Capstone)) (Library Binding)
When my six-year-old son checked out this book from the library, I expected a fluffy affair featuring Beetle Princess Barbie or something. The cover is pink and features a photo of a New Beetle, also tinted pink. The book is anything but what I expected, however, as it displays diagrams of the engine cycle and tells how Hitler commissioned Beetles and other work from Ferdinand Porsche. Of course, my son has never heard of Hitler, as far as I know, so to him the man is probably just a leader who wanted inexpensive cars for his countrymen. But if you want fluff, look elsewhere, because this book has real information in it.
My biggest issue with the book was how repetitive the text was. Even my son was saying, "They already said that!" It seems like a waste of paper to say the same thing over and over; the book could be shorter without failing to convey all its information.
