This Bentley repair manual is actually very, very good. It's a massive book with loads of useful information about the Jetta. It is so much better than what I had (which was the web). It is better than the typical Chilton or Hayes manuals, which I've owned a dozen of over the years.

I'm fairly mechanically inclined. I change the fluids and do all the routine maintenance myself. I had even changed the timing belt twice before getting the manual. When I go looking to a manual, I'm looking for details that can't be readily observed by a somewhat competent shade tree mechanic/driving enthusiast.

When I bought the manual, I was repairing a couple electrical issues on my TDI Jetta (bad fan control module and failed fan) and despite having a decent electrical diagram, it did not have enough information to actually diagnose the exact problem. I got further information from the Bentley support forums (yeah, the guys that write the book support the purchasers of it!) and learned that the electronic version has the additional information I was needing. Specifically, pinouts of components along with methods for testing individual components (such as, apply 12v here, jumper pins 2 and 3, and X should happen. If not, Y is defective). This book has some of that, but not enough.

Having that information is the difference between knowing for certain if buying a particular non-returnable electrical component will actually fix the problem.

This is yet again another great manual from Bentley Publishers. The details for the repairs I have had to do on my Volkswagen are nicely illustrated in this manual, with clear step-by-step directions. I have used service manuals from other publishers, and by far Bentley surpasses my expectations where the other publishers left me disappointed.

I can honestly say that this is the manual I recommended to all of my Volkswagen owning friends. All of them. Surprisingly all of them bought it. Not only does this manual help me fix problems that are serious to moderate to just plain weird it helps me learn alot about my car as well. It helped me learn the things I need to get my car "Bella" the Volkswagen in a better shape. I recently had to change my water pump and I was going to take it to the mechanic which cost me alot of money, and instead of taking it to the mechanic I used the simple knowlege and the manual and I changed my water pump. Yes it has that too.

By learning and reading the manual everytime I need to use it I am able to fix other cars as well that are Volkswagens. This knowledge that I gain from this great manual will stick with me forever. I am very satisfied with it. I am very thankful that I bought it and alot of my other friends that own the manual are thankful as well. It trully is worth every penny that you spend when you buy this awesome manual.

As someone who is not a mechanic and also new to the German VW design, I think this manual is good. It has electrical diagrams, info for body work, many mechanical diagrams and other stuff. It is as big as a nursing college textbook! I am going to invest in a VAGCOM because VW cars are computer driven I really have no choice. I would recommend this book to any VW do it yourselfer especially the diesel guys.

Awesome manual. Haynes is cheaper, but this one is so much more detailed. Suck it up and spend the money, it's worth it.

Good general help, Very good wiring diagrams (but hard to follow, sometimes). OK for general mechanical issues. Better than nothing, but may or not save you the cost of the book. Unfortunately you will still end up at a dealer or a service center with a computer scanner that can get into you system, just a OBD-II code reader will not be enough for some of the more difficult problems like Secondary Air, Mass Air Flow, ABS etc.

I found this to be an excellent manual for servicing my 2005 VW Golf TDI - Diesel.

Very thourough and detailed. Lots of pictures.

This is an overall good car manual. I have not performed any maintenance with this publication yet. I bought it for the specifications like torque values, maintenace schedules ect.. and provides tons more info then ill ever need. the reason i rate it 4 stars is because it's a bit brief like it would have 3 steps on removing an alternator. and installing it would read "do everything backwards" lol. maybe its just that easy. It would also be helpfull if they wrote the page number on all the "refer to's." am used to reading aircraft publications and this does not compare to the step by step details am used to. then again your not working on airplanes. good manual.

This is the standard repair manual. Really long and detailed. Best you can get for VWs
