More About the Author

Since 1950, Bentley Publishers has helped professionals and do-it-yourself mechanics by publishing highly detailed automotive manuals and time-saving service guides. We started by reprinting and distributing hard-to-find British car manuals, such as Austin-Healey, MG, and Triumph. Today we offer a full line of technical automotive reference information for Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen and many other vehicles.

Everything that goes into a Bentley manual - from developing the outline, tearing down a car, authoring the repair information, taking our own photography, to meticulously disassembling the vehicle (and putting it back together again!) - is done by our team of Technical Editors right here in our Cambridge, Massachusetts office.

In authoring our manuals, our approach has been to go for the details, resulting in books that may look intimidating, but are easy to use. More detail and less "averaging of facts" leads to less guess work when you are working on a car.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Volkswagen New Beetle Service Manual: 1.8l Turbo, 1.9l TDI Diesel, 2.0l Gasoline (Paperback)
Very detailed text for repairs and maintenance. Makes even the daunting task relatively easy. To have 5 stars, it should have more detailed pictures. Color would receive a 6th star. Best manual on the market. Worth it 110%

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I was looking for, June 25, 2006
This review is from: Volkswagen New Beetle Service Manual: 1.8l Turbo, 1.9l TDI Diesel, 2.0l Gasoline (Paperback)
I must qualify that I am not a mechanic by training but enjoy doing a lot of the work in our cars. That said I found this manual disappointing in that it really does not offer any kind of help in the maintenance of the car for people with little mechanical training. By "Service Manual" I understood that there would be detailed information of how to do certain things like working on the AC components, transmission, etc, that is more that just changing your oil. It is not there!. It just gives you pictures of part by part components with little descriptions of procedures. I can get the pictures in the Internet! going to a bookstore does no good because this is one of those sealed books until you buy. I just did not like it and will sell it as soon as I can :^(

3.0 out of 5 stars Good manual but could be better, March 11, 2007

This review is from: Volkswagen New Beetle Service Manual: 1.8l Turbo, 1.9l TDI Diesel, 2.0l Gasoline (Paperback)
The manual has detailed descriptions on how to take elements apart, but when it comes to codes it let you hang. I have a series of error messages which are also spelled out in the book, but it does not point you to the faulty part.
It would be a good idea to have an additional section which points you in the right direction based on the error codes.
Overall I would recommend the book since there is nothing better out there.
