If you followed the restoration of Ryan Price's 1971 Super Beetle in VWT, then you know what this book is all about. The Volkswagen Super Beetle Handbook is a Restoration Guide for 1971-1974 Models that is made up of the articles that were published in VW Trends magazine under the name of Super Project '71. Those articles were a turning point for the magazine and made it more popular than ever. No longer was the Super Beetle being shunned, instead it was being featured. Super Beetle owners worldwide rejoiced.

More than just a collection of articles, this guide is packed with pictures and information that cannot be found anywhere else. You can learn from one of the best on how to take your Super Beetle from basket case to show stopper with ease. Chapters include Initial Inspection and Evaluation, and all the way up to Installing Exterior Body Parts and Trim. Once you get to that point, you're finished! I've seen people searching on The Samba to find missing issues just to get all of these articles, but now you can get them all in one slick package. This really is a must have for any Super Beetle owner!

Having just bought my first Super Beetle, I thought this book would be a good place to see what it takes to restore one. The step-by-step descriptions and numerous photos are great, but the photos would have been more helpful if they had been in color. In some sections, it's difficult to see what parts are being referred to. But I am not a mechanic, and don't have any experience working on cars, so this probably wouldn't be a problem for someone who's accustomed to what they're looking at in the engine compartment and underside.

I bought the other VW Trends Beetle restoration book and returned it. Very disappointing. This one, on the other hand, is terrific!

I have a '73 Super Beetle and plan to use this book to guide me through several projects I am planning.

When I saw the first article used in the book in a VW Trends magazine on the news stand I tried to get a subscription beginning with that issue because, if I remember correctly, they wanted about $10 for a back issue!!! I called to see about getting a subscription starting with the news stand issue and got the runaround about not being able to choose the first issue of a subscription. So I emailed them. After more than six weeks I finally received a reply. By then I was so pi**ed off I blew them off.

When I saw the book come out I looked it over and was very pleased because it would have cost a small fortune to get the back issues of the magazine with the same articles.

Anyway, even though I haven't used the book for an actual restoration yet, from the reading I've done it appears that the author has done an excellent job of documenting the steps he went through while restoring his own VW Super Beetle.

If you are in the market to restore a Super Beetle, this is a great reference. The pictures of what it is SUPPOSED to look like when you are done are inspiring.

I bought this book because my Body Shop Guy asked me for a breakdown of my bug I am having totaly restored. Not knowing for sure what I should get; I choose Amazon to review the books. I bought; gave it to Marc and he said "This is perfect; that is what I needed". I hope veryone can kind the same success as I did. Good Luck! Doug E.

I just bought a '71 Super Beetle and purchased three books here for help in getting the best use from it. This book was a big disappointment in that I found both its title and subtitle to be a poor reflection of the actual contents.

This book is a reprint of series of articles in VWTrends Magazine in which a '71 Super Beetle was restored. It is mostly pictures and general text. There are a few useful specifics, but not many. In almost every step of the restoration, the car was turned over to professionals. So there is very little that will help an amateur in restoring their own Bug.

I found this book to be of little use in the restoration of my Super Beetle. It is by and large a picture book. There are no technical diagrams or descriptions, just pictures with brief descriptions. Pass on this and buy the Bentley manual.

This book is a very good reference and gives a good history of the Super Beetle. I would recommend it to any Bug or Super Beetle fan.

It definitely was a hit with my VW Fanatic! I only hope that he follows the instructions when he restores his 1973 VW bug!

This book is informative , well written. The photos are a great visual tool. I would recommend this book to any novice who would like to restore their VW.
