5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have expansion if your adventuring in the Dalelands!, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Volo's Guide to the Dalelands (AD&D/Forgotten Realms) (Paperback)
This book combined with The Dalelands book is everything you could possibly want to know about the Dales, heart of the Forgotten Realms. I Highly recommend getting both of them as the material doesn't overlap, they compliment each other quite nicely!

There is not a pre-written adventure included, but there are plenty of adventure hooks, and when combined with The Dalelands (which comes with a wonderful map), you'll have an abundance of adventure ideas that will be easy to flesh out with these books in hand. This expands greatly on the info found in the campaign setting, and will really make your adventures in this area come alive. As mentioned in the other review, this book doesn't cover Shadowdale, but Shadowdale is fully covered in the 1993 & 1996 2nd edition campaign settings. (which are pretty much the best FR campaign settings due to the fact that they are very detailed, and include multiple poster maps with a hex grid for measuring distance)

I'd also Highly recommend Elminster's Ecologies,
The Moonsea,
Cormanthyr, The Ruins of Myth Drannor,
Cormyr, & Volo's Guide to Cormyr, for a lifetime of adventuring in the Forgotten Realms!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a great book, January 14, 2010
This review is from: Volo's Guide to the Dalelands (AD&D/Forgotten Realms) (Paperback)
I have all of Volo's Guides. I'm running a 3.5 Forgotten Realms game, this is a 2nd edition book. I bought it and use it a lot, it is full of great maps and fluff. So many details on each of the dales, except shadowdale. There isn't info on that dale which is actually a plus since there is so much on it in other books and it freed up space for more info on the less detailed parts of the dales. It is full of great pictures that add a lot of flavor to any game when you can simply show your players what the bridge looks like and there is a map of all the dales included as well as some maps on the more important towns. In the index there is also quick write ups of many npcs from the dalelands. Overall this is the best book put out in any edition for info on the dales. If you are going to run a D&D game set in the dales you need to get this book. I believe it was set on the FR time line in 1368, if not that year very close to it. So for standard timelines it still works well with 3rd or 3.5
