4.0 out of 5 stars For display and mild play
The plastic gift set version of the Masterpiece Voltron is a gret value to the collector who a) doesnt have the extra $100.00 to blow. b) the collector who likes to constantly touch their collectables. c) when the kids want to check it out, it's ok for them to do so because it's somewhat more durable, and less fragile, like it's die cast counterpart.

3.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece it is not but neither is the diecast version
This Golion Voltron is plastic ,and a 100 bucks cheaper than the 2006 diecast version. It is actually more stable and more durable than its counterpart. The legs of the lions, the blazing sword and star shield aren't chrome but they are painted silver instead. It's a nice touch and there's no need to worry about chrome wear. Also the lion's bodies aren't diecast but...

Typically molds, colors, features etc are the same as the die cast verison. What stands out the most is since mines was delivered back on 9/26/08, is the fact that I have disassembled and reassembled Voltron over 10 times and not one aspect or limb has gone loose. Plastic Voltron is great to pose, easy to manipulate and would even be primed for a kitbash for added detail. It's great for kids, in fact my 7 yo who loves Voltron will be getting her own soon. Transformations arent difficult at all, nothing falls off or out of place and there are no difficulties with having to put the wings back up in place or constantly tilting the head(s) back into place. Although very durable I still recommend light indoor play. My 7 yo was raised on sensitive toys so she knows how to handle one but bear in mind should you decide on a Plastic version for you or yours that this isnt in any way the Voltron that we had as kids. I remember dropping Lion Voltron from 15 ft and only having to worry about dents and scratches. Overall I give the Toynami co. big points 10/10. It would be great to see a Vehicle Voltron in both die cast and plastic modes as the next in line.

Also the lion's bodies aren't diecast but plastic so there's no worrying about paint chipping. A minor gripe of mine is that the green lion's silver painted collar is fading some or wasn't well painted ,and some of the silver paint by the rear of the red lion is a bit sloppy. Also noticed on mine the back paw on the side of the red lion, there's a bit of plastic there left behind and wasn't trimmed off. Most of the joints are tight except the black lion's neck, and also the red and green lion's neck which are a bit loose. Also both of Voltron's arms are wobbly when holding the sword and shield. The gree lion arm of Voltron doesn't hold on well like the others do. Also the plastic on the green lion chipped a bit twice while I was trying to connect it to the hole on the side of the black lion's chest. Like I said it was minor ,and there's no crack but I sometimes worry when I raise the arms by moving them. The articulation and posing is better than the original but limited in some areas. The sculpting is better. The black lion isn't bigger or boxier this time. It's the same size of the blue and yellow lion. But the red and green still remain as the shorter of the lion pack. The numbers are painted on the lions just like the rest of the toy. There's no stickers. It doesn't include each lion's special knife sword that went in their mouth nor their cannon accessories. Which is a downer cause the original included them. Also the red and green lion's head don't launch unfortunately this time. But the red and green lion inside their mouths have a connector hole where the peg of the sword handle goes in and the peg on the handle of its shield. The box is quite nice. It says Let's go Voltron Lion Force! With a painted graphic of the Voltron toy and its five lions. Inside it has a nice cardboard with each a plastic clear window display for each lion with their number printed below ,and stating which lion it is, along with both the sword and shield that it comes with. The insert box where the lions are kept along with the accessories is actually made of classic white foam. I give this review a three and a half overall. I wish that toynami makes Dairugger XV Voltron next. Maybe this year it might be possible.

My grandson is so into Voltron, just like his father before him. This collector's item is perfect for him. He was thrilled to open up the box and see it so neatly packaged and organized. Now, every time he is done playing with it he puts it back into the box just like it came and carries it around like a briefcase. He LOVES it. He is only 6, but is responsible with a toy like this. This Voltron reminds me of what my sons had when they were young in the 1980s.

Wow! I just love this set of voltron lions, I remember when I was younger I always wanted the voltron set but could never afford the insane price they were sold at. Now you can own a beautiful fully detailed set of voltron lions that have way more movement than the original lions. I let my kids play with them every now and then and they are very industrial and solid so don't be afraid to play with them. The detail is awesome for example the green lion has metallic tones that spell out quality. Rumor has it that A big budget Voltron movie is being released soon and that should cause this set to double in value. Overall a great set and worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than The Masterpiece Version, February 6, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Voltron Lion Force Collector's Gift Set (Toy)
This toy is good enough for children to mess around with. I recomend ages 8+. As a said my favorite lion is the blue lion. The only diferences between this Voltron and the Masterpiece is that this one is made of plastic. All the chrome has been replaced with silver paint on the shield, sword, and legs of the lions. The transformation remains the same just different material. As a bonus it doesn't fall apart as much as the original Masterpiece. It lacks the Certificate of Authenticity and the number. This one will go fast because it is much cheeper than the masterpiece or the original. I prefer this Voltron so that way I can show it to my friends.

I thought I was the only one who wanted this robot back. It's a great toy for the person who doesn't have or doesn't want to spend the money on the masterpiece edition. I would highly recommend this robot for the person who just wants the lion voltron back in their life as it was back when we were kids. I just remember being seven years old and carrying my voltron around but now that I'm 31 years old I get to be a kid again.
