From the Author
For over 30 years big business has solved its staffing shortages by teaming up with charities and "hiring" volunteers. I've been absolutely astounded to learn how effective this strategy is for both the businesses which use it, and the non-profits which participate. The Cincinnati Post recently ran a story about a small non-profit that raised $45,000 by participating in a Volunteer Workforce program. In my hometown, there are two churches that were built by funds raised exclusively from Volunteer Workforce programs. It's an amazing story, and small business owners -- and non-profits everywhere -- need to know this is possible for them. It's been a pleasure interviewing companies and participants from non-profits, doing the research (occasionally at restaurants and amusement parks -- dirty job but someone's got to do it!) and presenting seminars and workshops. I hope you enjoy learning about this amazing phenomenon as much as I enjoy writing about it.
