Iglesias Does It Again,
This review is from: Volver [Original Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
Volver was narratively and stylistically a tremendous film, but as with all movies, the full effect can be sealed with the musical score. Here, Alberto Iglesias once again delivers. After his haunting, noirish feel to Bad Education, his efforts on Volver create a beautiful and bittersweet world that describes every moment of the film. Standouts include "Las Vecinas", a catchy theme which I find myself going back to time and again, the title track, "Volver" which is emotionally stirring and hits all the right notes and feelings, "Paco Congelado" which humorously, yet darkly portrays Raimunda's husband, "Comida Casera", rich in pizzacato and a great clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone trio, and the song found in the opening credits to the movie, "Las Espigadoras" seems like a trip back in time. Overall, this album is highly listenable-- after all, I'm on my third time in just a few hours. The score accompanies the movie very well but stands even better on its own, something that many soundtracks struggle to do.

Great Soundtrack,

The music of Alberto Iglesias, who's worked in most of Almodovar's films, always brings an extra, very important, element to the feeling to the movie. And in "Volver" is no exception.

Beautifully Done.,

This review is from: Volver [Original Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
This movie was cleverly achieved by Almodóvar. I have nearly all of his movies. He truly is very creative in the stories that he writes. I see a theme with him and how he showcases women as the valiant courageous survivors and the men as ....well..basically cowardly, bastardly trash. :)
I enjoyed seeing Carmen Maura back on screen in Almodóvar's films. From what I heard Maura and Almodóvar had a disagreement and for that reason she was not in any of his movies for a long time. I believe Maura was a favorite of his. Their prior, recent reconciliation would explain her return to his cast of stars, of which includes Penélope Cruz in "Volver." The acting is all quite good in my opinion, the story is a tad bit fantastic but still very believable. Almodóvar is one of my favorite directors and in this movie, as per usual, he doesn't disappoint.

This is a great album from the original composer of the movie; I listened and I enjoyed every track, because each song reminds me many unforgettable moments in the picture, which is one of my favorite ones!; I enjoyed every scene when I saw it and for me this cd is an excellent complement to the movie; I recommend that if you want to buy this cd you have to buy the dvd and watch it, because is the only way to make the better connection within this wonderful soundtrack and the picture itself; so let's see this incredible movie and then sit and relax to hear these beautiful collection of instrumental scores!!

Very nice piece of soundtrack,

Very beautiful soundtrack. It captures most of the emotion of the movie.
But, does anybody know what's playing in the background (with violin) when Agustina meets Raimunda in the kitchen after the hospital visit to renew her request to find out whether or not her mother has died? That does not seem to be included in this soundtrack.

Estrella, not Penelope,

Having watched the commentary on the DVD I learned that Penelope lip-synched and the singing was done by Estrella.
