Tight fit.,
This review is from: Voodoo Tactical Shotgun Scabbard (Misc.)
I was given the Voodoo Tactical Scabbard for Christmass. I have a 12 guage Mossberg with 18" barrell and it is a pretty tight fit. It takes a little effort to get the shotgun in and out of the scabbard. I assume the scabbard would loosen up with use, but not sure. The scabbard does seem to be well made and I have not issues with it other than the fit.

Tactical shotgun case,

This is a perfect shotgun sleeve unless you have a shotgun with a breacher barrel. The sharp, pointy tips don't allow you to insert the shotgun into the sleeve without ripping it. I sold it to a buddy that has a regular barrel and he loves it. I wish it would have worked with mine.

Eh . . . Not what I was hoping for.,

I have two shotguns; a Benelli Nova Tactical and a Remington 870. They would both fit if I didn't have Mesa Tactical Sureshells on both of them but it's very tight. The Mesa Sureshells don't fit in here at all. Even when I used to run a Tacstar 6 round shell carrier, it still barely fit. Here are the conclusions I came to . . . It is clearly not the right tool for hands-free, combat ready shotgun carry because of how tightly it holds the gun. It's an awkward, over-the-shoulder reach to draw it in the first place but the stiff scabbard makes it much harder and slower. I prefer single point slings and even if a part for that specific weapon isn't available, you can mount a single point on any shotgun if you're clever enough. It would be fine for transporting a shotgun but just don't expect to be able to draw or reholster it very quickly. I tried leaving the gun inside of it for a few days and that didn't really help. It does fit the Benelli Nova Tactical with the LPA sights by the way, just not with any sort of shell carrier on it. I was suprised by that since the LPAs are pretty high profile sights.

Nice Scabbard,

I am very happy with this scabbard. It fits my Remington 870, 18", factory +2, with Spec Ops stock, just about perfectly. As others have said, it is a tight fit so there is no fitting a gun with a side saddle in it. Fortunately I have 3GunGear velcro sidesaddles on my gun so I just take them off and mount them to velcro that I installed on the front side of the scabbard when not in use (see pictures). It would be nice to have some sort of quick release retention system to hold the gun in, but that would be easy enough to sew on. Though not really needed as the scabbard holds the gun very tightly. The padding in the walls of the case seems to be of a pretty high density and I'm not worried about the gun being banged around. Besides sticking the velcro to the front, the only other thing I will do is to probably upgrade the sling to a little heavier strap. But for $36, I would say this is a 5 star investment.

happy purchase,

four star for two reasons, one because I agree with the previous reviewer about the pouch being too tight for any shotgun accessories (tight is also good though) and two, the lining is a little thin and the bead sight tore a little hole in mine. You may want to search for a more padded carry strap, maybe one that has elastic that holds shells, the supplied strap is a little thin and the buckles sometimes slip, small price to pay for such a good scabbard.

This was a good product for the price, it looks awesome with the shotgun! The only small issue is that the strap pinches a little if your not wearing layers, the top part of the strap. If you want your shotgun to slide out smoothly you need to take your sidesaddle off. All in all it is a great scabbard! I would recommend this to a friend!

its a very well made product, BUT and its a big but, most shotguns won't fit in it. Especially if you have any accessories on the gun. fits my SxS 12ga fine, and my 870 if I strip it and push HARD. It isn't as useful as I had hoped.

HOW TO PROTECT SCABBARD FROM BREACHER CHOKE TUBE,
By
This review is from: Voodoo Tactical Shotgun Scabbard (Misc.)
I am currently shopping for a scabbard but as I have yet to make my decision, I am unable to comment.
I am writing to address the breacher choke issue. I have a Remington 870 with the serrated/breacher choke tube. It is exactly 1 inch outside diameter. I went to my local Ace hardware store and picked-up a cheap $3 pack of (four) stool/table leg endcaps that have an interior dimension of 1 inch. They are about 1 inch deep, black and made of a rubberized/flexible plastic. They are a perfect, slightly snug fit. Almost unnoticeable. I keep one on the barrel at all times and keep the other 3 in my gun case for future use. You don't even need to be concernd about removing it prior to firing in an emergency situation. The round will pass right through it without any noticeable effect. It will not only prevent any snagging in the scabbard, it will also help avoid putting a nasty ding in your bedroom wall when you lean it against a plaster board surface. My wife is still PO'd about that. Write back if you require clarification. |
