Apparently the company is gone which implies support for it and it's iOS app is also gone.

My VooMote recognized my device when I was about 2 feet away from it while setting it up, but any more than that and it did nothing.
Heather Bourdeau
On the VooMote, I could not figure out how to teach it "watch a DVD" or, "watch netflix" like my Logitech remote did.

You won't need them with the VooMote Zapper!

Here's how simple it is!

1. Attach the VooMote to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch via the dock connector.

2. Download the VooMote app from iTunes

3. Pick a room: Choices include living room, bedroom, study, guest room, kids room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. (Needs a recreation room!) You can add other rooms (like a Rec Room), but you have to use one of the eight logos included on the app to represent it.

4. Pick a device category: TV, DVD-player, BluRay, Cable box, Satellite, DTT/DTV/DVB-T, DVR, VR, VP, audio device, CD player, IPTV & Digital Media Player, Game Console, or Home Automation. Again, you can add categories not listed here.

5. Pick a brand: There are dozens of brands under each category. If your brand is not listed, it's easy to add.

Once you generate your room and device, the app creates an icon for each.

Now it's time to train your device. This is amazingly easy! If you have several devices, this might take a while, but one device can be set up in minutes.

The VooMote sends out and receives IR signals. To train the device, simply point your existing remote at your Voo-Mote. Press, hold a second, and release. Then, go to the next button.

All standard buttons are available such as record, play, rewind, fast forward, etc. There are even some blank buttons that can be programmed with special functions or macros for your particular remote. (You just have to remember which of these keys does what as they will not be labeled.) If you make a mistake in programming, you can hit edit and reprogram. It's very easy to edit.

Here's what I didn't like:

There was no Wii listed on the app!

Plugged in, ran it, says you need iOS5 to run it. Odd, I have an L5 remote dongle that works just fine on my itouch. This thing is GARBAGE.

The hardware portion is fine, with line-of-sight control working very well. My negative issues with the app are:
- Limited hardware profiles: had to use "Teach" for 2 of my 3 devices (HDTV and Denon receiver) which is somewhat time consuming but works OK
- Need separate "Rooms" to get it to apply macros and One-Touch for that particular activity
- Can't copy "Rooms" and then edit: I set up a Room to Watch TV, with a macro to turn on TV, set to proper Input, turn on Receiver, set to proper Input, turn on cable box, most of which had to be "taught" to the remote.
I then needed a Room to use my PS3 game console (different TV and receiver input values). Found you can't copy an existing Room and make changes, but instead had to do the entire setup all over again, including the "Teaching" part, which was bad enough to do once but to do multiple times is ridiculous.
- Macros don't work completely, at least with "taught" components: the power-on step worked for both components, but not the input changes
- iPod Touch battery: loaded this on an unused iPod Touch 4th gen. However, the remote and app have to stay powered to be useful, which is quite a drain on the battery. Can't power the iPod with the VooMote in place (uses the power port on the iPod).

As mentioned in the title, I own a Harmony 800 that I've been using for the past 5 years or so, and it does what I needed, but it's getting old and a little flaky, and a new one is quite expensive, hence my testing of the VooMote. The Logitech software is far superior, with its ease of programming preset macros for each viewing function, plus the ability to store the remote's profile online for changes/re-downloads, etc. Also, Logitech's database of components is miles above VooMote's: all of my components were available, with all of their feature buttons, so I did no "teaching" at all and yet had complete control of each device.

I ordered this hoping the reviews were inaccurate or possibly from faulty devices, unfortunately this was not this case. My VooMote recognized my device when I was about 2 feet away from it while setting it up, but any more than that and it did nothing.
