Book Description

A little magic goes a long way…
Alexandra Belle Boyette is closing in on the big 3-0 and her mama has made it her mission to marry her off. In the tiny parish of Bayou Miste, deep in the Louisiana swamps, finding suitable hubby material can be a challenge—and Alex would rather not rely on magical spells to do the trick. But there is a sexy new man in town who might fit the bill...

Ed Marceaux is in Bayou Miste to safeguard a key witness to a Louisiana Mafia murder. He must keep an eye out for suspicious characters—but the place seems to be full of them! What could be stranger than a woman dressed in a sexy nightgown chasing a naked man down the street? The enchantingly gorgeous Alex Boyette certainly makes it worth his while to find out…

Add a Voodoo spell gone wrong, and voila! madness—and love—ensues.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good story! June 26, 2013
By PamM
Format:Kindle Edition
Alexandra thinks her life is moving pretty smoothly but her momma wants her to get marry and settle down. That is not what Alex wants. She has a good business and helps take care of her brothers and sisters. Ed is in the Louisiana bayou to help keep a witness safe. He has to blend in with the locals and keep an eye out for trouble. This is an ordinary bayou. A voodoo queen likes to help the locals with their problems and is training her replacement. Magic can sometimes go a little crazy and spells don't turn out how you want. Alex gets an unwelcome present from the voodoo queen that turns her world a little crazy. Ed just happens to meet her as the craziness starts. Ed is the last thing Alex needs in her life but she can't stay away from him. Ed has a dangerous job to do and doesn't want to get anyone hurt. They try to fight what they feel for each other but they have more worries than that. Danger is coming to town and they are right in the middle of it.

Ed is a great guy even if sometimes he doesn't think it. He works hard and tries to protect the innocent even when they get on his nerves. He has never really had a family do Alex's large one is a new thing to him. I loved seeing him with all the kids. Alex is very protective and caring for her family. She has helped her mom for years and is really there for them. She is strong and and works hard to stay in shape and keep her business going. She doesn't like to get to close because she is afraid she will get hurt. Seeing her open up to Ed is great. Even in danger she tries to keep a clear head. I will say I love Sport in this book. He is awesome!

I really liked this book. While it has danger in it it still seems like a light read and one that is easy to get into.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voodoo Magic Strikes Again June 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bayou Miste has not changed since I last visited. Alexandra Belle Boyette is still unattached and her mother is still matchmaking. Trying to help Lucy, granddaughter of a Voodoo Priestess, sends Alex a Voodoo charm to bring her happiness. When the magic goes awry, Alex's dog becomes a man. Add to the mix Ed Marceau. He is here undercover to protect a witness. Since he is renting a cottage from Mrs. Boyette, this brings him and Alex together. The attraction is instant and hot. Neither wants a long-term commitment but they can't keep their hands off each other. A hit man appears and puts all in danger. Will the Voodoo magic play out and give them a HEA. This is such humorous and sexy story that you won't be able to put it down. The characters are a breath of fresh air and the action is non-stop. This is a perfect summer read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cajun Magic book 3 October 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
3.5 stars

Deja Voodoo is the third book in Elle James's Cajun Magic series and was just as much fun to read as the previous books. These stories don't need to be read in order as they all feature a different main couple but you will find familiar characters re-appearing throughout the series and in this case our heroine Alex is the sister of Ben, the hero from Voodoo for Two. This is a really light hearted series full of hunky Cajun heroes and just a hint of magic but I think the thing I enjoy most about it is the Bayou setting.

As the oldest girl in the Boyette clan Alex has spent years taking care of her younger siblings so the last thing she wants is to get married and start having children of her own. She's happy to put her energy into her business and wants to live her own life for a change but her mother has other ideas and is constantly trying to set her up with eligible bachelors. Ed is a colleague of her brother Ben and he is in the Bayou to protect a witness for a murder trial. He has a job to do and isn't looking for any entanglements but everything about Alex gets his blood pumping and she isn't easy to stay away from. Throw in a magic spell gone awry and things are about to get interesting.

I love the Boyette family, they are such a huge family and although they have their arguments just like anyone else they're really close knit and protective of each other. As one of the oldest Alex is like a second mother to the younger ones and they all rely on her for advice and assistance. She's never really had the chance to go off and do her own thing but she doesn't resent that, she loves her family and would do anything for them but she's now ready to spread her wings and start to live a little.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plot is all over the place. July 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Originally reviewed for Red Hot Books

This is the third book in Elle James' Cajun Magic series but the first one for me. I didn't have any trouble hopping in and understanding the world. The book is set in the atmospheric swamps of Louisiana's Cajun country in the small town of Bayou Miste where alligators are kept as pets and the local Voodoo Queen is revered. Alexandra (Alex) Boyette is trying to keep her head above water while running her gym and helping her mom care for Alex's 19 siblings. Ed Marceaux is an undercover Baton Rouge cop in town to protect a high profile witness. When Alex's scheming Mama pairs them up at a family dinner, an instant connection is made.

Had the plot stuck to this storyline, I feel like the book could have succeeded. At the beginning of the book, the Voodoo Queen gives Alex a gris gris bag that turns Alex's dog, Sport, into man to supposedly help cure her loneliness. This was supposed to be the charming and quirky part of the book but, unfortunately, it just seemed out of place and kept me from enjoying the main story.

Ed was a good fish-out-of-water character being the city cop trying to pretend he's a backwoods fisherman. The author doesn't get too heavy handed with his troubled childhood backstory and instead focuses on how good a family man he could be and I appreciated that.

Alex, on the other hand, was tiresome. She complained that she was lonely, but adamantly refused to entertain any idea of a relationship. This fact was reiterated every other chapter. Oh, but then she runs into handsome Ed in town, has sex with him about two seconds later and promptly runs away from him because she can't possibly have a relationship and maintain a business.
