Editorial Reviews

Voodoo Moon speaks clearly to this band s history, and the future of what great artists can do. Kim Simmonds woodsheds like a journeyman, always reaching for higher ground. He can be found in his own backyard White Cottage studio most every morning when Savoy Brown is not on the road. Simmonds is constantly writing songs and working on his playing, both electric and acoustic. He has taken to solo performances since 1997, which is one the greatest of artistic challenges. He has also been painting since 2001, which gives him another creative challenge. But most of all, Simmonds challenges himself to continually be a living artist!

I love Kim's guitar playing! November 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'm old--and there is some Circus magazine that lists Kim Simmonds as a choice for "best guitraist." I circled his name. I was probably seventeen years old. He wrote "Lost and Lonely Child" Wow! Listen to the guitar work on "Hellbound Train." And then there was the Yolden era. So...what about "Voodoo Moon"? Well, I loved "Steel"--and I really like Kim's voice. This may be better than the other Savoy Brown releases through the years. Kim stretches out in the title track. That's worth the price of admission. Joe Whiting adds vocals. Yeah. It's another great Savoy Brown album. Just listen to Kim play--five stars because they don't make albums like this any more. Enjoy the honest music.

Best Brown in years December 15, 2011
Format:Audio CD
We've all been there. You find yourself at a live performance and the the band plays some great sounding new material. As soon as it's released, you buy it. Many times you can't believe the songs are the same ones you heard because of studio polish or added horns or strings or myriad other things that can ruin great songs. Late last summer I caught Savoy Brown at a sparsely attended, mosquito infested, but otherwise awesome music festival in Freeport, Illinois. Kim Simmonds mentioned their upcoming album and proceeded to blaze through quite a few of the tracks. So often the new songs are a letdown when sandwiched in between older, more familiar stuff. Not these new songs. They fit in seamlessly alongside their elder brethren and the show smoked from start to finish. So now we get our hands on the album. Disappointment? Hell No! It's more like amazement. This is a really good album, carved from the same stone that built the bands reputation as a killer rockin' blues band. The songs I remember from the show are excellent. The ones they didn't play are as good or better and the overall sound is really good. A "must have" for the Savoy Brown fan and the rest of us old farts who like our music "meat and potatoes style".....Get It.
