Book Description

Voodoo Daddy - A Virgil Jones Mystery by Thomas L. Scott will have you hooked by  the end of the first paragraph!

Readers who enjoy the mystery of James Lee Burke, the suspense from John Sandford, and the thrillers by Lee Child will savor the characters and gritty action of Voodoo Daddy -- A Virgil Jones Mystery.

Amazon's latest Number One Best Selling Mystery Author, Thomas L. Scott has assembled a story that comes together with style.

His voice is now one of the most unique in the genre, and with Voodoo Daddy, the first of the Virgil Jones Mysteries, he's nailed it with a mystery, suspense, and thriller all in one!

As lead investigator of the Indiana State Police Major Crimes Unit, Detective Virgil Jones tackles only the toughest cases in the state, and the one he faces this time has the city of Indianapolis on edge, near the brink of panic. A team of serial snipers is on the loose. Their killing ground is the city. Their victims are chosen at random. Or are they? With no witnesses and very little evidence, it's up to Virgil Jones and his team to find out who is behind the on-going massacre and stop them once and for all...if they can. But Virgil has his own problems, both personal and professional. Among them, a backlog of cases that require his attention, the sudden reappearance of his long lost friend who is a convicted felon, a downtown bar he co-owns with his father, and he is in love with Sandy Small, one of the investigators in his unit.

With the entire population of the city of Indianapolis at risk, it's up to Virgil and Sandy to explore the dark places of a past where nothing is quite as it seems. As the clues begin to fall in place they paint a portrait of betrayal, deceit, blood-lust, and greed, and in the midst of it all, Virgil and Sandy make a personal discovery so profound it may change their lives forever. Voodoo Daddy is a story of life, love, murder and mystery; one that examines the depths of human emotions and the dark places they often lead us all.

Review

Voodoo Daddy and Thomas L. Scott Rock!!
Thomas L. Scott is an excellent author, and I can't wait for the next Virgil Jones book. This was 1 of the best books I have read in a long time, and from page 1 or 2 I was hooked. Non stop action, very believable characters, and I was completely engrossed from the start! -- Amazon Verified Reader Review

Great story, Excellent writing!
I loved how it all tied together! This was one of the better novels I've read in a while. The mystery itself was woven in nicely with good character development. I also enjoyed how it went from one character's point of view to another character's p.o.v. in the next chapter. It let us readers see the insight behind the actions and motives of different characters. -- Amazon Verified Reader Review

Smart, Funny & Addictive!

This is my first time reading anything by this author but it will not be my last. A great read. Loved the characters & the dialogue. Well written and a exciting story. A really smart book and interesting writing style. Get this one. -- Amazon Verified Reader Review

Pleasantly surprised at a great read!

I have not had much luck with Indy writers, however this book is better than most "traditional" books. The author put together a well written, logical, believable storyline that most importantly for me was not predictable as most other "thrillers" I have read. This book reminds me a lot of Nelson Demille--just as well written and smattered with the same style of humor and sarcasm at times. Great read and I highly recommend it. -- Amazon Verified Reader Review

Love the characters in this book!

The story line always had me guessing what was going to happen next. Thumbs up!-- Amazon Verified Reader Review

This was one of the better novels I've read in a while. Author Thomas L. Scott, whether he's "new" to writing and publishing or not, certainly doesn't appear to be. His writing is descriptive and he does an outstanding job tying all the different characters and plots together. I loved how the main plot came together towards the end of the book! I'm not a big mystery reader, but this book certainly interested me throughout. The mystery itself was woven in nicely with good character development. I also enjoyed how it went from one character's point of view to another character's p.o.v. in the next chapter. It let us readers see the insight behind the actions and motives of different characters.

So, the story was excellent and highly entertaining and thought-provoking! The only criticism I have, and I hope it's constructive for the author, is to do another read-through to check for spelling and typographical errors. Also perhaps have someone else (who's skilled in grammar and spelling) read through as well. Through the entire story, the author used the word "isle" for "aisle." (Isle=island, aisle=row) There were also multiple errors with apostrophes. Again and again. (Apostrophes should only be used to show possession of something (Sandy's dress) or in a contraction (doesn't). They were often used incorrectly when it should have just been a plural word (shoes...not shoe's).) Those were the biggest two that glared at me as I read, since they came up a lot. And I admit, grammatical and spelling errors are a pet peeve of mine so I probably notice these things more than some other readers. It's not a BIG deal, by any means, and it didn't prevent me from enjoying the story and giving it 5 stars! But I hope the author learns from this and doesn't mix up isle/aisle again. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great, and much more filling story May 6, 2012

I purchased Voodoo Daddy and immediately stared reading it. After a long and wild ride, 6 hours later, I was almost completely done. So far it is fantastic! The plot is gripping, and the characters feel so real. I'm sure I am about to read a very exciting ending and I will not be disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery, humor, or just a great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thoughly enjoyable mystery! July 5, 2012

There are two types of fictional writers - the great story tellers, and the wordsmiths who give readers something to think about. Mr. Scott is both. With enough twists and turns to keep the plot interesting and moving along to some of the more profound observations of human nature, the story, with just a little more editing should make literary agents sit up and take notice. Kudos!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book May 21, 2013

Voodoo Daddy is one of the best novels I've read recently. It's an exquisitely plotted mystery, a cop procedural, a thriller, and a love story. It's also a book about family and forgiveness, and one man's spiritual journey. I can't wait to read the next Virgil Jones book.

Probably the best Indie writer I've found
He has a few other short stories that are great reads as well. My personal favorite is Just Another Day. http://www.amazon.com/Just-Another-Day-ebook/dp/B007SBVOK4 you can get it at that link. The best way is to simply go to the top free ebooks and see what else is ranked very high.
