Good fan, but not "whisper quiet.",

I like this fan. It is powerful, doesn't take up much space, and is easy to clean. However, don't believe the product description that says it is whisper quiet. It is actually rather loud at the medium and high settings. That said, I'm not sure it's possible for any fan to be "whisper quiet" when it's moving as much air as this fan does at the medium and high settings. The lowest setting is fairly quiet, although still not much more quiet than any other fan. At least there are no rattling parts. I like being able to point it at the ceiling so that the air doesn't blow directly at people. I have used it all night every night for over a year and have had no problems with it, so it seems pretty durable.

Reliable and Efficient Fan, Although Expensive,

I bought this fan from a local hardware store during a heat-wave last summer, so I wasn't able to shop around for the best priced model. I paid about $90, and was a little hard-pressed to justify the expense since similarly sized fans were priced at about $20-30. But with a year behind me, I know that the additional expense was well worth it: the fan is compact, efficient, stylish, and well-made.I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the climate is generally mild throughout the year and air-conditioning is rarely needed or available. So, I can't attest to how well the fan works for circulating air-conditioner output. I only rely on fans during the Spring and Summer when the the temperature gets above 80 degrees. Also, my only experience with fans to-date has been with the old-school box fans that I remember my parents using during the summer. However, I know that this and other Vornado fans are different: they produce a confined stream of air that reaches 20 feet or more, which makes a huge difference in cooling an entire room and not just the couple of feet directly in front of the fan. Also, the quality of the motor, housing, and blades is noticeable. I doubt that it will fail any time soon, though the lifetime warranty provides additional reassurance. I recommend this fan for anyone looking to cool a medium-sized room, such as a 20x20 foot living room. It's fairly quiet on the low setting, but pretty loud on the high setting (acceptable given the amount of air that it's moving). And the positionable fan housing makes it easy to direct the stream of air any place you like. |
