I've had some pretty serious allergy problems since I was little. Up until about month ago they were driving me crazy. I was taking Clariton every morning and still suffering. I was desperate so I picked up the Vornado Air Purifier and the results were instant. When I wake up in the morning I no longer have a stuffy nose and my throat is no longer sore.
I stopped taking Clariton and while I do occasionally have an allergy attack it never happens inside the house.
I would recommend dusting your room first and keeping the windows shut.
This device does what it says for allergy sufferers and keeps a cool breeze throughout a medium sized room. Highly recommended.

I purchased two of these based on all the positive reviews and when they arrived I was initially thrilled. Until I opened the device and realized that its basically a fan with 2 small furnace-style filters. That's it. There is no real "sealing" of the air path so lots of leakage around the filters is guaranteed. Next, the filters themselves are simple furnace-style filters and not true HEPA filters like what was implied in the advertising.

If you look at the CADR ratings, the dramatically lower score for smoke vs. pollen or dust tells you that the filter really designed for larger particles above 1.0 micron. This is ok for dust and pollen but won't help for anything smaller like bacteria, viruses, and sub-micron contaminants. So if all you want cleaned out of the air large dust particles and bigger pollen, you might be happy with this filter.

This is a very inexpensive (read: cheap) design. Don't let the name and the good looks fool you...this is basically a plastic container with a fan on top and two cheap paper filters on the bottom. If you want something that is more than just a dust and pollen filter (like what you find on your furnace or in your car), then you should look elsewhere for a true HEPA filter with good air sealing.

As an aside, they list CADR certification when in fact not a single Vornado product is listed on the CADR site.

I bought this in February 2009 because a friend I trust recommended the Vornado brand as the best air purifier. He had done a lot of research and had been using Vornado purifiers in his home for a few years. I was not disappointed. As soon as I started using it, I noticed the difference in how I felt. My allergies were awful. Now my bedroom is an escape and I feel relaxed and can sleep much better. I also love the different settings. The timer is great! I don't have to worry about it running all day or night. I also love how quiet it is. I can't sleep if there is noise and I don't hear the Vornado air purifier at all. I'm very glad I bought this and plan to get a few more for rooms in my house that I'm in a lot.

Didn't buy from Amazon but the reviews here helped in my decision. The unit is pretty basic: Fan unit, base, and two filters. Simple design wins here. We are using it 24/7 in our master bedroom; we sleep more soundly and wake up more rested. The volume of air movement is impressive and I'm already seeing quite a bit of dust accumulating on the filters 6 weeks in. Plus the 10X20X1 filter size is easy to find "generic" replacements for. Easy way to replace more often for less $$. Overall great value for what it does for those with allergies.

I bought this item from someone other than Amazon to save about $20 and I will never do that again ! I got the run around and it took over 2 weeks to receive it, I should have known better - Stay with Amazon !!! As for the product, it works great, plug and go and you will have clean fresh smelling air within 30 minutes throughout your rooms. Plus Vornado is a gold standard among fans, purifiers etc... This product also meets the No Ozone laws within California for air purifiers, unlike the upright stick cleaners.

I purchased this at a local linen store and thought I would test out. I didn't have high hopes because I live in the dirt, the very fine sandy dirt of NM. It gets in everywhere with the doors & windows close and with black furniture, I could see it and was only imagining what I was breathing in everyday. Plus I have 2 dogs! After 2 days I noticed a significant different to the dirt flying through the air on my furniture. I am not an allergy sufferer but witnessed results far above my expectations with this guy. And on quiet, it is really quiet and I don't notice it is running. I have it in a open dining/living room area and it is does a good job.

We bought this purifier for 2 reasons: we had a newborn who was sleeping in our room for a while, and our room is the dustiest room in the house. The other reason is we have had a Vornado humidifier for about two years now and love it.
I dusted our room when we recieved the unit, and after a month we barely had any dust. We keep it on normal during the day when no one is in the room and turn it to quiet at night. It helps cool our room too so there is no need for us to put our ceiling fan on high. Our son has had no problems. As far as noise, its about as loud as your average oscillating fan. After a night, it becomes background noise. A nice plus was that it eliminated smells. When we cook, all the smells go straight to our room (2 story house). This really helps get rid of odors much faster than juust leaving the door open.
If your looking for a good quality purifier at a great price, I would highly recommend Vornado.

I have asthma and cats. I need an excellent air purifier. I found it in the AQS500. It is powerful. It's easy to use, a breeze to set up, reliable and changing the filters is a snap. It also makes a pleasant 'white noise' that drowns out the city sounds at night and is a luxury to sleep with.

It might not be cheap, but it will be worth every penny you spend on it. I bought one years ago when they first came out. It's still going strong. I wanted one for every level of our house so I bought two more. They are all of equally high quality. Add to that good customer service and automatic shipments of replacement filters and this product can't be beat.

I am 100% convinced that the AQS500 Purifier by Vornado has kept me from getting sick this winter. I keep it running full time in my bedroom and replace the filters when needed. I purchased this a year ago December and have not had any symptoms of illness. That is a time span of over a year without being sick! Plus, I love the quiet white noise at night. It really helps me get a good nights sleep. I would recommend this product (and I have) to anyone looking for an air purifier.

The second i bought this i plugged it in my room and WOW, i came back ten minutes later to crisp fresh air. Dander and pollen were no longer a problem. Allergies kill me but this thing works magic; I love it!
