Just wanted to try and clear up several points on this fan for those who are on the fence about purchasing one.

1. The 735c is NOT a replacement for AC for insufferably hot homes. If you're sweating bullets using a standard fan, then you're going to be sweating bullets using the 735c. The 735c is a very efficient fan in terms of noise-to-airflow, but at the end of the day, it's still just a fan no matter how much hype surrounds it. If you expect miracles, you'll wind up disappointed.

2. The 735c IS a great complement to an existing HVAC, especially if your home has very poor air circulation like mine does. It can help make your AC and heating much more efficient and effective.

3. The 735c is NOT silent. Moreover, I would consider the 735c to be "whisper quiet" only on its lowest setting (which to its credit is still capable of moving a very useful amount of air). On its second lowest setting, the 735c is still quiet, but sitting 10-11 feet away, I can hear the "rush of air" noise that's typical of any other fan.

4. The 735c uses anywhere from 39W (on low) to 65W (on high) of power (comparable to standard fans of its size), as measured with the Kill A Watt monitor. Thus, if you're paying 12 cents per kWh, and you're running the fan 24 hours a day on low, that works out to about 11 cents per day. Running the 735c on the highest setting 24 hours a day will run you about 19 cents per day.

5. The 735c housing is made entirely of plastic, and the construction feels rather cheap. Just FYI to those that might care.

Finally, I did some very, very crude tests comparing the 735c to my 16-inch Pelonis pedestal fan that I bought at Walmart for 15 bucks 2 years ago. I've uploaded the table of results as a pic to the 735c product page. Essentially, it shows that the 735c just does everything better than the cheap fan, but whether this is worth the extra investment is obviously up to the buyer.

In my case, I'm very happy with the 735c and would purchase it again if needed. Its extremely efficient and whisper quiet low speed (from about 10 feet away) is what's most appealing to me. The 735c cools me as well as my old pedestal fan, yet unlike the pedestal fan, the 735c allows me to do things like watch tv without having to crank up the volume just to drown out fan noise.

I doubted that a fan that sits on the floor could keep my entire bedroom cool, but it does. This vornado does a better job of keeping my room cool than the tall fan I had. I would recommend this fan and buy another.

I'd purchased this fan over a year ago at a local store. I needed something that would circulate the air efficiently due to the layout of my home, long and open. I found it to be somewhat pricey, alot higher than most other fans out there. Nevertheless, it was a smart buy on my part. Because you can angle this fan from a low vantage point it made it so the air circulates from floor level in one room and through another. Coming home from a hot and humid day outside made it pleasant inside.

On one of the three lowest settings air moved around fine and kept me cool. Additionally, I didn't have to turn up the TV volume to drown out the fan noise. Of course, on the two higher settings the fan is louder, like most fans will be. If you wanted to use this at night it's a fine fan to use in a childs room on setting 4 or 5, (low). The air movement is just enough to keep away a chill and silent enough to let sleeping children lie.

As one had previously written, the construction of this fan is very simple. The housing is a relatively hard plastic with a motor, as is with alomost all fans I've found. However, I feel that the dynamics of this fan has made this purchase well worth my dollar. If you're someone who's had trouble finding the right fan for your home and you're in need of some good circulation, I encourage you to spend the extra buck and give this one a shot! The fan takes up about 1 cubic foot. I have it running all of the time. I live in a two bedroom apartment, and it has one wall heater in the living room. I bought the fan to circulate air throughout.

The fan is very quiet. People who have stepped in front of the fan have commented that they didn't even realize it was on until they stepped in front of it. I have it resting on the floor out of the way, and it is discrete. I generally leave it on setting 2 (of 5). My computer is louder than it.

On level 2, it circulates the air adequately. If I turned it up to 3, it does it excellently, but the sound becomes noticeable, so I prefer it on 2. But if I leave the doors to the bedrooms and bathroom open, they will stay the same temperature as the rest of the house.

With this fan, you are getting what you pay for. It does what I expected for the price. My girlfriend complained that 'no fan is worth $80'. If this fan cost $50, I'd have rated it 5 stars.

I own a similar Vornado fan that I bought here in NYC to get me through this past summer without an air conditioner. After buying the first one I went and got a second. After the second, I also bought one for my girlfriend's apartment. I have been very impressed with how well these fans circulate the air and create a much cooler environment than the pedestal fan I owned previously. My only complaint is the cheap plastic switch which has either broken or is close to breaking on all three fans. I wrote Vornado recently and we'll see how things go. My Vornado works well in the wintertime as well seeing as many buildings in New York are too hot during the colder months.

Great fan. It's not as quiet as people want you to think, however, I love the fan.

This is the 5-speed version of the 733, in grey. J&R is selling it for $80 + $10 shipping. Vornado, the manufacturer is selling it for $60 + free shipping.

I called J&R and asked for the price to be changed to match the Vornado deal. They said they would honor the price over the phone, but not change the price on Amazon and no free shipping. Since I won't be able to use my Amazon gift card with a direct purchase from J&R, the price change is irrelevant.

I'm buying the fan for free shipping with the manufacturer. It just feels more safe.
I was always under the impression that price-match guarantee was supposed to be BETTER than the competitor, not sort of equal. Where's my incentive?
